She Voted for Trump. Then She Had Two Terrifying Miscarriages in Texas.
In 2023, my sister Victoria spent more than 24 hours hemorrhaging into three diapers when Dallas-area hospitals declined to help her. “I know you’re not supposed to have regrets, but I do,” she said, about supporting Trump. “Look what’s happened.”

In 2023, my sister Victoria spent more than 24 hours hemorrhaging into three diapers when Dallas-area hospitals declined to help her. “I know you’re not supposed to have regrets, but I do,” she said, about supporting Trump. “Look what’s happened.”

**

“This guy is not a politician! He’s very blunt and upfront about what he’s speaking and what he’s believing in, like maybe that is what we need,” Victoria recalled thinking at the time.

That year, on Election Day, she voted for Trump.

***

Six years later — after Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices who each voted to overturn Roe v. Wade — my sister sat hemorrhaging for hours in the emergency waiting room in the conservative small town of Waxahachie.

----

She was nearly nine weeks pregnant. The life that was supposed to be growing inside her felt like it was flowing out in streams of blood. It was filling the thick pads she was wearing, and she feared any moment it would seep onto the glossy plastic blue chairs at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

“I’m bleeding uncontrollably, I can’t stop it, and no one can help me because everyone’s afraid of what will happen.” At least, that’s how it felt during those hours in the waiting room.

Just two months earlier, Texas’ trigger law had gone into effect, making abortion a felony punishable by life in prison. Experts warned the law would be a minefield. And it is.

if there is one thing that is common among cults, it is the loss of its members’ sanity. whatever the cult demands, the members must comply regardless of the harm it causes them. the process of electing leaders usually involves making a decision based on personal and national interests. with trump, however, decisions are made with his, and only his, personal interests and biases in mind.

Diaper Donnie got the ball rolling with those SCROTUS appointments, to be sure, but the unspeakable evil of the Texas legislation belongs to Abbott and his two malignant minions, Patrick and Paxton. ... are congenitally incapable of dealing with abstractions like "other people". If it's not staring them in the face, or slapping them upside the head, it ain't real to their diseased lizard brains.
There may be a small number of MAGA sycophants that have seen the light, so to speak, but they are few, and they will always be susceptible to the influence of the next demagogue's self-serving bullshit because they never have, and never will, think for themselves. Their playground politics of "I know something you don't know!" will ultimately be their undoing, but in the meantime, they will wreak some serious havoc.
The rest of 'em are irredeemable assholes who relish the thought of killing anything, and anyone, with the temerity to disagree with them. Just. Like. Trump.

This is memorable from the article:

The Supreme Court’s decision this week means that, when it comes to reproductive healthcare, Texas does not have to abide by a long-standing law that requires most hospitals to provide stabilizing treatment to anyone who walks through their doors. If that sounds troubling, that’s because it is.

Any woman miscarrying in Texas can still be denied care because their doctor is afraid to be prosecuted. Still be forced to wear a diaper at home to absorb their blood in the middle of a physical and psychological trauma. Still get interrogated about their miscarriage.

Too bad for Texas women. It could be all of us suffering soon and the men who love us. I hope that they're paying attention.

"...requires most hospitals to provide stabilizing treatment to anyone who walks through their doors."

This is the thin end of the wedge in getting rid of EMTALA. Republican politicians and hospital corporation executives have been talking about ending EMTALA for decades. If the Republicans succeed in getting rid of the Affordable Care Act and the uninsured population greatly increases, I think that that push will gain momentum.

Hope this story is not repeated.

Sorry to say, if Trump is elected, this story will be repeated.

How many people will vote for Trump that depend on the ACA.

They may or may not get healthcare through the ACA marketplace.

Some depend on ACA for protections against pre-existing conditions and/or lifetime limits.

what she did. They have zero empathy and zero common sense.

Texas will probably remain red until tens of thousands of women have died. It's very sad.

Not judging Texans because Georgia too is back under a six week ban and we know of at least 2 deaths, with many more likely undiscovered due to the time it takes to investigate maternal deaths.

Do women's lives matter in this country? On Election Day, we're going to find out the answer to that question.

under Obama it got better, under trump is got worse and will continue to get worse because of a corrupt and evil SCOTUS and white people who seem to be just fine with this mess, even white women who show up for the evil when they literally have to almost die to understand the consequences.

The one thing that could make America great is universal health care but we're going backwards.
