(5,764 posts)...the text in this image is not the original, yes. It's mocking Ham.
But Ham DID publish a book called "Dinosaurs in Eden". And it DID make the argument that things like carnivorous dinosaurs spent their days side by side with Adam and Eve doing things like eating bananas. And then later on people riding them around with the freaking Pyramids in the background.
THIS

...is an *actual* page from the book. Right from Amazon. as is this:

JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)I mean the Apatosaurus left HUGE dung piles.
You'd think the bible would mention those dung piles and how bad they smelled.
The Camel has MANY references in the bible. T-Rex, not one mention. Apatosaurus, not one mention.
catbyte
(39,153 posts)"terrible lizards" so that MUST mean they saw dinosaurs. Geeze, JoePhilly, get with the program.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)Wait ... so the bible talks about Camels, multiple times ... but then its only mention of Dinosaurs is to refer to them as "Great Lizards"??
This makes no sense ... The diversity of Dinosaurs should have led to more mentions of these creatures. The bible makes direct references to many specific animals. You'd think that the Stegosaurus would get mentioned. T-Rez had huge teeth, walked on 2 legs, and had two apparently useless, chicken arms.
At some point, some biblical tribe should have used Aptosaurous dung to make a house, or a defensive wall.
But no ... the bible is fixated on camels. Long neck, a couple humps ... NOTHING compared to some of the dinosaurs that humans, according to the crazies, domesticated.
Clinecrowd5
(2 posts)there are 2 mentions of dinosuars in the Bible...but they are not called Dinosaurs because that is a "new" word. Both Bohemoth and Leviathan are mentioned in the book of Job! read their descriptions! One resembles a swimming creature and other resembles an Apatasaurus.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)The Behemoth sounds much more like an elephant or Hippo than anything else.
Now, some might try to argue that the description of the tail doesn't fit. They argue that the he tail should be larger and stiffer. Except that the reference to a "cedar" could refer not only to the cedar tree, but to the cedar bush as well.
The main problems are ...
(1) This creature is compared to an OX initially. Which means the first image placed into the bible reader's mind is that of an animal around the size of an OK. If the animal is much larger, the passage should say that somewhere. After all, you want the reader to get a size perspective of some animal much much larger than an ok, at least according to you. That does not happen.
(2) Later in the passage, the creature spends its time in the water. Scientists don't think that's where the Aptosauras spent its time.
(3) The passages in JOB describe this animal taking shade under trees. An elephant could do so, an Aptosauraus would have been too tall.
(4) Part of the story is that only God could kill it. By that same point in history, people had stopped trying to kill elephants and hippos. They were so strong, the risk did not outweigh the reward. Much of the Old Testament points attempts to help the reader avoid dangerous situations. That is probably why eating Shrimp and other shell fish (no scales) was seen as an abomination ... the people at that time did not realize that "shell fish" and "scaled-fish" could not be preserved in the same fashion.
Now ... as for Leviathan ... let's see ... can you tell me which dinosaur was able to do these things ... ??
18 His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn.
19 Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
Its not surprising you went to the Old Testament again, that book of the bible does seem to have the most superstitious content, at least compared to the New Testament.
So given that ... let's do this ... let's imagine that I agree with you that the Behomoth and the Leviathan might be references to dinosaurs in the OT ... clearly the Dinosaurs should also appear in the NT, right? I mean they should get some mention there, right?
Now, you could argue that they died prior ... maybe during the time of Noah I guess. But Noah needed to take 2 of every animal, including the Dinos, on the Ark. Did they die prior? Or did he take them? If he took them, how did they fit? Who feed them? Who cleaned up their dung?
And then, what are they doing during the NT times?
