Trump's Tariffs: Do the Math

Last edited Wed Oct 16, 2024, 08:21 AM - Edit history (1)

Donald Trump told Bloomberg yesterday that he will impose a 2,000% tariff on goods. To let you know how insane that is, a $30,000 foreign car would cost $600,000. A $65 pair of sneakers would cost $1,300. I'm all for buying American. When I lived in the United States for the first 70 years of my life, I always tried to buy American. However, these numbers are the ravings of a lunatic. What makes matters worse, Trump's items, including his MAGA hats and Bibles are made in China.

I just can't believe that this fascist moron can be within a coin flip's chance of winning. It's so discouraging.

the Bloomberg host that he and the WSJ were always wrong.
You see the CONvicted felon is omnipotent.

Then he went to Atlanta and said he had a great interview with Bloomberg.

With 100% tariff. But that is not the key issue. So a Camry would cost $60K. Answer don't buy a foreign car. BUT American car prices would also go up because the tariff just caused inflation. So a 30K American car might cost $45K or $50K. So Trump is proposing massive inflation of all goods.

...we combined high tariffs with a balanced budget, we could pay off the National Debt with teeny-tiny dollars in no time flat.

Of course, the fly in that ointment is the massive economic depression (or outright collapse) that that policy would cause. It's a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid plan.
