(23,187 posts)If there isn't something important there that I can't get some other way, I won't go there period. So I for one pass on links to "X" that don't explain what exactly they contain. Just my two cents.

Yes, that certainly is a good thing.
Joe, here's your recap: the video is 1:19. Can you spare one minute? Shave off the 19 seconds by stopping the video.
2nd recap: Mama didn't raise no fool.

(23,875 posts)I have lots of blockers in my browsers that won't automatically let X (or buckface or others) retrieve content without my explicit consent.
There are tons of hidden tracers embedded in many web pages that track what you are looking at, how long, even if you hover your mouse over a link. I used to write some of these and used them in some commercial/financial sites. They are privacy killing.

(23,727 posts)Being a small stable genius I always thought when clicking on a twitter arrow if it opened a new window
then I was on twitter. But when clicking a play arrow and it automatically opens then I'm still on DU.
Thought it was like viewing a picture that's posted on this website.
But I could be mistaken, we know how stupid some stable geniuses are.

DU doesnt have a way to magically transport a video from another site to DU without first retrieving it from the original site.

We need an op option to ALERT on videos posted without context or help. Bare videos should be banned to the rubbish bin

I'm glad to hear they cared about Jan. 6. Polls kept suggesting no one did. I'm guessing these men weren't asked.

(9,990 posts)seems to be tilting blue these days, more so than in previous elections. Wish I could say the same about 50-64. At any rate, it's heartening to hear what folks in a white rural GA county have to say.

(9,148 posts)In general, it's a been a stubbornly right wing group. The douchey idiots in my high school in the early 80s loved them some Ronnie. The good news from a voting perspective is that we're a relatively small bunch, especially compared to older Boomers and the generations that came after Gen X. A lot of us old Gen Xers had Silent Generation parents who were born during the Depression, so that was also a relatively small group that gave produced a relatively small amount of offspring. One theory for why this group is so nasty is that we received "peak lead poisoning," which makes you lose IQ points and more likely to lack compassion and empathy ... the perfect recipe to create a Republican.

Metaphorical
(2,634 posts)I'm in that generation, as are both Obama (two years older than me) and Harris (one year younger). Lots of engineers, doctors, and programmers, and mostly pragmatic, though considerably more cynical (Boomers usually are more idealistic and partisan, GenXers are much more situational). The Young Republicans, for the most part, went off the deep end eventually. Fortunately, we're a small cohort.

ProudMNDemocrat
(20,897 posts)I too know people who have voted Republican all their lives until tRump came along. They see that the Party has all but disappeared. Many have been voting Democrat since because they see that Democrats are not that different from them on certain issues like Social Security, Medicare, responsible taxation and spending, promoting opportunities, etc.
They see today's MAGA movement as opposite of what they believe in. They do not like cruelty, punishing of others, etc. Values and Principles still matters to them.
As more prominent Republicans come forth for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, they too will come around to vote Country over Party. For many of them still believe in the goodness and ideals this country has stood for.

(18,060 posts)even among the majority of my RW trucking friends, they're disgusted with Been A Dick Donald and his sidekick toady, Vance, especially with his tariffs bullshit which would devastate our industry, so they're either going to sit out the election or vote for the VP Harris/Gov. Walz ticket.
