his assignment is traveling around, attending Trump rallies. He reached out to rally goers of all types (MAGAs and rich/business type who attend Trump's speeches).
Why aren't they bothered about Trump's statements regarding using the apparatus of the US gov to go after enemies?
Summation of responses
1. "that's just Trump's bluster", "he really won't do it", "it's just how he talks"
2. We agree with him. Like what he's saying
3. He's been president before and his talk of retribution didn't come to pass
4. They simply don't care what Trump says.. they are sticking with him.
5. The apparatus of the US Gov has safe guards to prevent him from putting his plans into action

(6,069 posts)This is what happens after years of brainwashing by Fox News and fellow travelers. This just shows that "1984" totalitarianism can potentially be achieved by peaceful democratic means. Doublethink is clearly achievable. Gotta hope that Harris wins big and breaks Trump's spell.

(69,642 posts)Deep down, a lot of the people who think Trump is hilarious agree with his base message of racism and authoritarianism.
Put another way, they are always going to vote for the Republican and against the Democrat, and they will use any excuse. That became clear when all the Republicans who were so appalled by Bill Clinton didn't care at all about Trump's behavior.
I don't think there is a way to change their mind. Shunning might work but too many Democrats are too forgiving.

(69,642 posts)There's a combination of "he's hilarious - look what he said now!" combined with wealthy privilege and the mistaken impression that Republicans are good for the economy.
Scratch a little deeper and the racism comes out. A combination of privilege, fear, and resentment. It's not just for poor people.
