(938 posts)The ending didn't make sense, though. My daughter is a big fan of the original series. She'll love this.

(15,440 posts)Makes no sense to destroy the Enterprise centuries after overcoming the madness of Trump.
How people could watch that madness in real time then vote for him again is the biggest question.

(6,993 posts)In my preferred ending I would have had Kirk use the phasers on Merda El Lago the temple of madness and evil 👿

(15,440 posts)There was an episode when Kirk and Spock and McCoy somehow went back to depression era America, and encountered a social worker played by Joan Collins.
Kirk fell in love with her, but had to prevent McCoy from saving her from a fatal car accident because her death was important to the timeline that followed.

(6,993 posts)One of their best episodes!
However it may have been part of what was supposed to happen as when Kirk let Gary Seven destroy the orbiting nuclear platform in Assignment Earth. Spock remarked that history recorded that very event had took place so humanity survived and, at least in the series, turned from its self-destructive ways. Would that we do the same now, electorally, at this perilous point in history to secure the future.🖖🏼

(15,440 posts)Leads to the kind of future for humanity envisioned by Gene Roddenberry.
Star Trek has always been much more than science fiction entertainment. It is a vision of higher ideals coming to fruition, and a message of hope.
It is no surprise that Star Trek comes to mind in the approaching election, which instills so much anxiety and hope for our future.
We cannot rely on the notion that a catastrophe in our own time is somehow necessary for an unseen timeline. We must actively work to build that better future to the best of our ability, aided by the better angels of our nature.

(6,993 posts)Yes well put and so very true. The future is not preordained and is in our hands to craft.

(11,005 posts)If they could have gone back in time and blown up Earth in 2020, that would have been a more appropriate ending.
You all know what I mean.
The clip also reminds me of the 'historical documents' in Galaxy Quest.

(5,230 posts)brings together the worst qualities of the Ferengi (greed), the Pakleds (stupidity), the Klingons (violence), the Romulans (Tal Shiar-surveillance state), the Iotians (indiscriminate mimicry), and humans (all of the above, and more).
