The hospital had to admit one hour into the organ donation surgery that the patient was actually alive. I wonder if he lost any organs before they finally admitted the reality. And this was after he also woke up during a heart catherization performed on him that morning.

The medical story of Anthony Thomas "TJ" Hoover II began nearly three years ago when his sister was told he was "code blue," meaning he was experiencing cardiac arrest, while in Baptist Health Richmonds emergency room, WKYT reported. Hoover was deemed brain-dead. When his family decided to take him off life support, medical staff told them he was a registered organ donor.
Over the next couple of days, Hoover's organs were tested to see what was viable.
"We had his honor walk Friday afternoon," Hoover's sister, Donna Rhorer, recounted. "During his honor walk, his eyes started opening up. He was tracking. His eyes were tracking us around. We were told it was just reflexes, just a normal thing. Who are we to question the medical system?"
"He said he wasnt ready. He woke up. But we also hadnt been told during his heart catheterization that morning, he woke up then. If we had known that, then clearly we would have known he wasnt brain-dead," Rhorer told the Lexington TV station. "He made several attempts to say, Hey, Im here. But it was kind of ignored. They finally stopped the procedure because he was showing too many signs of life."
Following the alleged organ retrieval gone wrong in 2021, Rhorer was told to take her brother home to care for him and that he would not live long. He is still alive today.

(47,423 posts)The guy was showing obvious signs of life, reacting in pain to tests the hospital was doing to test his organs for viability.
Why were the signs of life ignored?

(11,196 posts)and the hospital totally denied that he was still alive until apparently one doctor finally put a halt to the surgery. One of the articles I read indicated that, at some point, the kid actually said a few words.
Stuff like that makes people wonder if a doctor/hospital will be in such a rush to harvest organs that they won't actually wait for a patient to die first. If you can' t trust the system to act correctly then they will start to have problems finding willing organ donors.

I think that this hospital or whomever needs to be examined a little closer, I think. I wonder if others were in this same condition, but the hospital still went ahead and grabbed the donated organs. This would be murder.
Sure seems like this could be a criminal case. This guy was very obviously not dead, but hospital seemed determined to go through with organ removal. The surgeon refused to do it, because the guy was very obviously not dead.

I am no longer an organ donor. Although why my already 77+ years old organs would be of any use to anyone escapes me.

chances are diminishing that they will find anything useful, but you never know. If Im dead, I certainly won't have a use for my body.
I am sorry this awful thing happened may it never happen again, to anyone.
