A quick, surface review of the internet tells me that we will be greeting President-elect Kamala Harris during the evening of Nov. 5th.
The real polling has started, let's fucking go.

(28,258 posts)but we still need to work our BUTTS OFF like we're ten points behind. We need to work for a LANDSLIDE to BURY the futhermucker and his allies--every last one of them. I would LOVE to be able, come November, to wipe the MAGA movement away with a sponge. Otherwise, we will be fighting this same fight every cycle until the cows fly over the moon.
We were more or less generous and kind to them after Reconstruction, and they've been coming back repeatedly, periodically, ever since. They've had power in this country with only brief interludes of sanity since 1980. It is high time to crush them permanently, and send the message that their misogynistic, xenophobic, racist/nationalist/corporatist ideology is not welcome in America.

(22,593 posts)So much focus has been spent on the presidential race, that the other races have become lost in the shadows. The Senate, the House, the gubernatorial races, and all the state houses and senates, and so on down the line, are crucially important and are hardly done deals.
Make sure everybody gets out the vote, and vote across the entire ballot!

(3,470 posts)The opposing forces just continue to get darker and darker. EVERY election will be a fight for the soul of the U.S. I hope voters don't tune out thinking, "oh, I've heard THAT one before. Eveything seems fine no matter who controls the WH, SC, or Congress."

(22,593 posts)We'll need a friendly Supreme Court to overturn Citizens United, and we'll only get that if we win the presidency. And hopefully a Democratic Senate to go with it.
If we want to nix Citizens United via legislation, then at minimum we need to win majorities in both houses as well as the presidency.

(35,820 posts)Without der leader hopefully maga will wander in the dark for the next 4 yrs without any real direction, literally die off, and more jailed for their crimes. Are they done? No, but scattered..yes.
Stay focused, stay positive and spread a message of good will and dedication to move our country forward. Theres a LOT more of us than them
we can do it.

(22,593 posts)We saw that especially in the first terms of Obama and Clinton, with the "Tea Party" surge in 2010 and "Contract With America" in 1994. They will pull out all the stops for a red tsunami in 2026. Count on it.

(3,182 posts)The Washington Post poll is a high-quality independent poll, according to Rosenberg. Even more importantly, it supports his contention for the past few weeks that the non rightwing polls do not show movement towards R's. Harris is ahead, no slippage, and far more likely to win, according to him.
The poll shows Harris ahead by one percent nationally, but the really important results IMO are: GA 51-47 Harris, WI 50-47 Harris, MI 49-47 Harris, PA 49-47 Harris. NV is tied, trump is ahead by 3 in AZ and NC.
Yes, I will vote early and continue get out the vote efforts but I will also use this opportunity to spread good cheer and celebrate! Optimism does not depress enthusiasm in my experience.

(35,820 posts)Together a new kind of polling using election results from early voting and previous trends in voting.
Heres an article with some charts that show how others pollsters are missing the real numbers.

(15,424 posts)Plus, we like Harris/Walz, so our votes were FOR them as well as being against Trump. We are fortunate to have a candidate as strong, vigorous and able to articulate policy as well as Harris, as well as punch back hard.
Her campaign has been flawless. Now let's elect her!

(47,940 posts)PA still doesn't count mail in votes until after the polls close. In 2020, two other swing states did that, too. So, we could have a resounding victory that isn't announced until Saturday, when 2020 was called.

(15,574 posts)If so, a landslide for the ages.

(169,720 posts)Not really true. Here in PA, they will start "canvassing" the mail ballots (removing from outer and secrecy envelopes, and stacking them for feeding into a reader), when polls open, and once stacks are ready to go, they can go ahead and tally during the day. They are required to go 24/7 at that point to get them done.
I don't think ANY votes (machine or mail) are "reported" (officially) until after the polls close anyway.
But yes the issue is that the GOP loons here in the state legislature have ignored both Democratic and Republican County election officials who have asked them to update the law to allow for at least prepping the ballots for the scanners BEFORE the polls open (even if one doesn't actually start feeding ballots into scanners until the polls open).
Also note that 2020 was a pandemic year when you had almost 50% of voters using those ballots because many counties and municipalities (including here in Philly) only had about 1/2 of their normal "in person" polling locations open. But for every election since, only about 1/3rd of the voters have used mail ballots and the rest voted "in person", because the number of polling locations is pretty much back to usual.

(169,720 posts)but maybe the craft group who made the mailboxes for the 2020 celebration (one is now in the Smithsonian and the other 2 got destroyed in a flood from remnants of Hurricane Ida), will make some more just for the occasion!

I don't trust the polls since 2016. I still have a lot of sleepless nights left worrying about the orange monster winning.
