(2,387 posts)it's a useless emotion. extreme right wingers have
been brain washed or distorted by power. it's my job
to vote for progress and sanity. i did my job, and will
keep doing so because i believe in democracy and our
fellow citizens. fox news etc need to be held to a standard
of truth, then we as a nation can heal.

(4,168 posts)They've been brainwashed by a sophisticated system of propaganda. Messaging from the top on down the chain is consistent with what they see and hear on FOX / RW talk radio. High status people, presidents and their administration's spokespeople, Senators and Congressmen, think tanks and pundits, down through conservative respectable media (WSJ), then to the more scurrilous sources. FOX is in the latter category although many others are far worse.
They hear and see the same points over and over and over from so many. How can we really expect those who bought into the incessant (and successful) marketing against liberal media bias to not believe that malarkey?
I don't respect that, but I don't hold them fully accountable for believing that. Plus if we are going to ever come back from the brink of a cultural civil war, someone has to be the adults in the room, and make up our minds to think of them more as victims than villains.

(2,937 posts)And they must be having to work particularly hard at it these days. Their guy has devolved into a rambling senior citizen who can't keep a thought or put together a full sentence. It must be close to embarrassing that their guy is now famous for discussing Arnold Palmer's penis. This may not be what they signed up for.

(71,919 posts)... 'is there anything that stresses you these days?' I said waiting for President Harris to be elected. She was shocked because out here I look MAGA. She took my blood pressure and told me I told her the truth, my blood pressure was 126/85, usually 100/65.

(5,343 posts)Trump's personalty is very similar. The only person Stalin cared about was the one he saw in the mirror. He made deals with Hitler, starved the people of Ukraine, let his own citizens die, killed his own generals, and more people than even Hitler.
I have never understood why we are not supposed to hate these very real representatives of true evil? They chose to be evil of their own free will.
And I am supposed to think Trump isn't evil and it will all be hunky dory if he wins or cheats to win?

P.S.: I never capitalize his name anymore.

(5,343 posts)He isn't a "normal political opponent," like a John McCain or a Mitt Romney. Bob Woodward just a said on Deadline White House this isn't about policy differences or politics.
We all need to accept this is about keeping a literal madman from becoming the most powerful man in the world. He's not just a danger to the U.S. he's a danger to the entire world. It's not hyperbole from just our side or the media. For God's sake when was the last time any of us saw so many Republicans candidates say they are going to vote for a Democrat for President? Do you think they would be doing that because Democrats are hyperbolizing about how dangerous tsf is?
U.S. Generals who have served under Presidents' of both parties, including tsf himself are calling him facist and warning against the authoritarianism he will establish. Are they just blowing smoke for attention?
It's time to take off the rose colored glasses. If we stop him at the ballot box hurray! If we can't then we better hope like hell someone currently in power has a plan B ready to put in action because otherwise the U.S. as we know it will go the way of the Weimar Republic in Germany. Hitler should have never been allowed to do what he did to innocent people including children just because some idiots were as twisted as he was enough to vote for him. History shows us what happened when good people did nothing to stop evil, why are so many willing to let that same thing happen again with tsf at the helm?

(5,343 posts)One side hates people who have done absolutely nothing to endanger them physically, or mentally, or done anything to prevent them from exercising their personal rights. These same people claim they are persecuted because they aren't allowed to persecute and violate the personal rights of others.
The other side is angered by and yes even hates people who claim they have a "god given right," to punish in any way they deem fit," others who are just trying to live their own lives and mind their own fucking business. Not to mention the other side thinks stealing from the poor to give handouts to the rich is the "christian thing to do." Sorry I can't see why I'm supposed to think the two sides are the same.
I don't believe in violence by the way except in cases of self defense or protecting another, whose life is being threatened. Hoping people in the first group go to prison for hurting people, who haven't hurt others, or for that matter hoping they self destruct is a different matter. Why should I lie and pretend to love them?
