I'm not sure how to go about that. Anyone have an idea? This is specific to the post about "Ann Coulter's penis." and why that is inappropriate to this forum. It is transphobic and hateful.
And just a FYI to some folks, not all trans people have had surgical procedures. Each trans person is different in how they would like the world to see them. It's about how they feel and what makes them feel happy and "normal." (I hope that is the right way to describe it.)
If you haven't already seen it, Will Ferrell and his long time friend's documentary,"Will and Harper" gives a good insight. It is a really a wonderful tribute to a friendly love situation between Will and his trans friend of over 30 years. It's on netflix.

Don't mis-gender people. That's what bigots do.

(43,850 posts)I think some of it is unthinking use of gender slurs but even so educating people is important.

(7,309 posts)We all hate Ann Coulter and I know we want to insult her. Being a nazi is insulting. Being a trans woman who has not had surgery is not an insult. There are so many women that don't choose to undergo that surgical procedure.
Harper, Will Ferrell's friend, addresses this on the documentary, Will and Harper. That documentary should win an Oscar or two. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do. I laughed. I cried. I was educated.

(43,850 posts)I have a couple of trans friends, neither of whom has surgically transitioned, in part because they came out late in life and dont want the medical issues. But those of us who have known them as one gender had to teach ourselves new ways of referring to them just because of habit. Theyre so happy, and its so hard. I have enormous respect.

(7,309 posts)She is happy in her skin now and that's all that matters. I just can't understand why people can't accept that. If she had been able to transition and accept herself at a younger age, she may have done more. So, physically she presents as a trans woman and she is fine with that.
Why can't others be fine with with it? She and Will go to a Texas restaurant where they felt actually felt unsafe. It just broke my heart for her. She's finally feeling like her real self. And the haters just try and take that away.
Definitely, see the film. It's on netflix.
