Seriously, what are you going to do if Trump wins? I am going to hope like hell we hold the house to control the budget and even better the senate. Of course if we hold the senate then that brings up another question on why Harris couldn't win, but someone down ticket from Texas or Nebraska could win, while holding all purple and blue states downticket. Looking at A and B polling suggest that the downticket is doing about 3-5% better depending on the state. We're winning Arizona and even Ohio! Polling suggest by 5-8% and 2-3% for those states and We're doing 2-3% in Wis and Mi in senate races.
Sadly even if we do hold both houses Trump can do a hell of a lot of damage with the presidency.

(9,485 posts)and staying out of jail is a big motivator not to mention he still gets to bang the "I beat them" drum and then pay golf. He will take the deal because Thiel, Musk, and the other billionaires want their boy Vance in there. They are not going to give him an option. They only tolerate trump as a means to an end. Control of Vance is that end.
onenote
(45,963 posts)And that's probably a long way off, if ever, given that he still has appeals left. And once he's in office, Thiel etc have no sway over him, even assuming they ever really did.
Native
(7,289 posts)He wouldn't be doing that unless it would be beneficial to him.
onenote
(45,963 posts)Why would he dangle that possibility? Mostly to make it sound like he's not going to engage in the kind of political retribution he accuses the Biden administration of employing. He's lying about the Biden administration and he's lying about not intending to engage in political retribution. And he's lying about pardoning Hunter.
Native
(7,289 posts)Let's say he's given a prison sentence in November, but, God forbid, he's won the election. You pardon me, and I'll pardon Hunter. I'm sure his addled mind hasn't even considered the fact that Biden could pardon his own son. Or perhaps he's thinking Biden will come to his rescue if he loses and is faced with a prison sentence because he has spoken out about Hunter not deserving prosecution. I just know that he doesn't cut anyone slack or even think about it much less mention it unless there's something he thinks he can gain from it.
onenote
(45,963 posts)It will be a long time before he would actually have to begin serving a sentence.
Consider Steve Bannon -- he was sentenced to prison in October 2022. He began serving that sentence in July 2024.

But I have some obligations that will keep me here for a while longer. A fascist regime will definitely light a fire under me though. I have a fear that Trump and Musk will f@#& around with my pension, health insurance, and social security. Trump already had proposals to screw around with the benefits of federal employees and retirees last time around but he was blocked by Congress.
I am considering Panama, Mexico, Costa Rica, Thailand, or the Philippines. All of those countries have retirement visas. They have minimum income requirements but they're fairly low and easy to meet. I'm not too crazy about some of the governments but I won't be involved with the local politics. I just want to kick back and enjoy my retirement. My friend is planning to retire to Portugal. (31,567 posts)Everyone here should understand that we are prime "second level" targets for investigation and prison. They will think up the crime to charge us with. But for certain we will find our names published on a "target" list just like the civil servants in the DOJ and DHS that were published today. And we will be constantly swatted and harassed and possibly even militia targets for killing if Trump wins.
They will go for top public Democrats first... Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi and AOC, etc. Then they will come for "deep state" civil servants" and finally for "communists" and other "enemy of the state". DU falls in that target list.
I will be in the EU and I will pray that the EU ignores any attempt of extradition on "trump'd up charges".
But our names ( which they will get from chicken shit ISPs ) will become known... and we will be doxed / investigated and possibly charged with bullshit crimes that we will have to pay lawyers to defend against..
If we stay even a year or two into the nightmare, it might well progress to the "concentration camps without charges".
Can't happen here? Ask the American Japanese right after Pearl Harbor.

(56 posts)I actually worked for both DOJ (DEA) and DHS so I guess I'm a part of the deep state. As I stated in another post, I plan to move abroad when I finish with some important obligations here regarding an elderly family member. I'm not going to abandon them. But I will get out of the Fascist States of America as soon as I'm able. That won't stop them from going after my financial well-being though (pension, health insurance, and Social Security). So even though I will be in some far-flung location, the fascist POS can still ruin my financial well-being.
