I know we have a chance for an upset win in the Senate race in Texas. We clearly have the better candidate. And Kamala going to Texas could increase turnout, but its surprising shes going there so late in the campaign.

Their internal polling must be pretty positive. Even if they cant swing TX KY, they at least believe they can take some time from the 7 swing states to push for down ballot candidates in red states.

Kamala is doing everything she can with the limited time she has.

(28,836 posts)As you noted, we have a chance for an upset. That's why she's here.
The Senate map is extremely challenging this cycle. Stealing the TX seat would improve our odds of keeping the Senate markedly.

Definitely a lift for Allred (will he be there?); maybe try to boost totals in Texas popular vote for Harris- So that's the political aspect
Harris prescence will be amplified throughout the state and make big national news with Beyonce.- So that's the "buzz" and sound byte aspect.

(5,365 posts)because Texas is a very conservative state. I guess high turnout would be worth it. It would be the highlight of the night if Cruz lost his seat.

(2,248 posts)It's not always about the top of the ticket.
Harris is likely trying to solidify down ballot races, specifically the senate race since it appears unlikely Democrats will win Montana.
Trump is going to New York and Virginia for the same reason, but more focused on congressional races.
Both are also hoping to create buzz with large rallies in unconventional areas.
Some pundit said a few days ago that this might be the first election since 2000, maybe even before that, what both campaigns believe they truly will win.

(10,014 posts)Hell, his exhausted ass has been canceling events and rallies for HIMSELF! As if he's going to be doing many rallies out of the goodness of his heart for other candidates. Once again, LOL!
If he finds out that Virginia rally was supposed to be for someone other than himself, he'll probably have it canceled and rest up instead.

(2,248 posts)He cares about the crowd but these rallies are absolutely scheduled to help in down ballot races. Do you think Trump is looking at a map and making the sole decision on where to go next? If it was just up to Trump, he'd be spending his entire campaign in New York or Florida - not Bumfuck, Pennsylvania. But he'll still do a rally because he likes the sound of his own voice and talking for two hours to his adoring fans. Make no mistake about it, tho, they're doing a Virginia rally to likely help boost House support ... whether Trump cares for WHY he's in Virginia or not.

(10,014 posts)And placating Trump means catering to Trump and Trump alone -- not down ballot candidates.

(2,248 posts)Trump is going to speak. That's all Trump cares about.
OR there's a second answer that is much worse than whatever reason you're suggesting and Trump thinks Virginia is in play and if Virginia is in play, Democrats are cooked.
W_HAMILTON
(10,014 posts)He and his campaign are buffoons and there is no rhyme or reason as to what they are doing other than to schedule appearances for Trump to placate Trump by letting him grift and give the same tired speech he's been giving for years now -- unless he's too tired to deliver it, in which case they will cancel. Once again, it's all about Trump -- and no one else.
And, no, Virginia is not in play, Democrats are not cooked, and this will help neither Trump nor down ballot candidates -- assuming it isn't canceled to begin with.

(2,248 posts)...is that it tells us to ignore everything in front of us. If Trump's campaign is so awful, and run by a bunch of buffoons, what's it say that they're tied in the polls right now?
And I know it's cute to act like all polling is fake and Harris is going to romp to a win but that isn't happening. If Harris wins, it will be by the skin of her teeth.
But we can laugh. Let's just hope we're still laughing on Tuesday November 5th.

This is ONE day and it will be in a very Democratic and diverse city, Houston. Her being there may mean Trump has to do more in case her appearance with Beyonce makes him uncertain. It would be great if this helps Alred in his race which seems closer.
The other thing is that Kamala and Beyonce will get considerable views on many TVs and social media platforms. I assume that Beyonce will sing her Freedom song that was used to great affect at the convention and after
