directly to the fact that ownership has thwarted the independence that should be afforded to journalism in a free Sociey.

hours after he withdrew the endorsement process. Clearly his commitment to democracy is shakey and conditional to his personal circumstances.
What are citizen soldiers to do?
Say oh well but the journalists?
I say. Subscribe to another publication that has editorial and journalistic integrity.

8. That's the problem. WaPo is just a toy for Bezos; even if it totally collapsed

it would barely make a dent in his bank accounts. It's pocket change for him. Cancelling subscriptions won't hurt Bezos; for that matter, neither will cancelling your Amazon Prime account. However, not cancelling your subscription implicitly gives permission to other news outlets who aren't so rich to be similarly cowardly. It's the only way we can send the message.

My subscription was due to reup the 26th. I decided to cancel on the 25th. I don’t think people realize how much Amazon Web Services contributes to Amazon’s net income. Sure Amazon.com brings in more revenue, but their profit and growth has been on the web. One way to hurt Bezos is to deny him government contracts. I’m guessing AWS’s government $ dwarfs Blue Origin’s. I don’t even care about hurting Bezos. I haven’t trusted the paper since the William Lewis hire and this move further substantiates my fears about the paper’s direction.

23. My perspective from the other side of the credit card

I have very little agency in the outcome of this election. I have a vote, I have a subscription, I have donations.

I'd love to have more levers to pull but I don't. So the subscription is canceled. I also have mixed feelings, as I loved reading WaPo. I first subscribed in 2016 when they became one of the Enemies of The People. It's what I could do, so I decided to subsidize my free press as I truly consider it to be a pillar of democracy and a free society.

I no longer fully trust the intentions of WaPo, and am uncertain of what's been filtered. That's the price of muzzling some content but saying "trust me". They're free to regain my trust, and I hope they do, but until then I am taking what little action I have available to me. To do nothing seems acquiescent.

conservative columnists. For the people saying they won't cancel because they don't want the honest top journalists to be fired, do you honestly think a guy who hired a right wing former foot soldier of Rupert Murdoch will be keeping them around much longer anyway?

And billionaires aren't exactly known for treating there supporting staffers fairly in terms of pay, and benefits to begin with.

38. This is interesting. I wonder how many of the people who are saying, "but the reporters!" earlier refused to

shop at Amazon for the reason, "but the brick and mortar store workers!" Same with people saying "but the Amazon workers." Those jobs are the direct result of the loss of brick and mortar store jobs.

There were hundreds of thousands of brick and mortar store workers, and while they were often mentioned, I don't remember anyone saying we should inconvenience ourselves to save their jobs. And what we're talking about here is a lot more than inconveniencing ourselves.

Why the difference?

Those reporters can go to a reasonable publication. I'd love to see them start another paper themselves.

Organizations fail. If this one fails, it will be for good reason.
