he sighed, i love it! Give them a bonus for that one!
I would also like to be clear that no quid pro quo of any kind is at work here. Neither campaign nor candidate was consulted or informed at any level or in any way about this decision. It was made entirely internally. Dave Limp, the chief executive of one of my companies, Blue Origin, met with former president Donald Trump on the day of our announcement. I sighed when I found out, because I knew it would provide ammunition to those who would like to frame this as anything other than a principled decision. But the fact is, I didnt know about the meeting beforehand. Even Limp didnt know about it in advance; the meeting was scheduled quickly that morning. There is no connection between it and our decision on presidential endorsements, and any suggestion otherwise is false.

(11,202 posts)That somehow makes it better? As in, Bezos thought he would have to wait longer for Trump to make good on promises if no endorsement was made?
Bezos should just let the editors of WaPo print their planned endorsement and Bezos can write his own Op-Ed on why he believes Trump would be equally as good, if not better, for Americans and America (or just better for the wealthiest like Bezos).

(15,017 posts)Even if it was last minute? Easy enough for him to say "I can meet you in two weeks..." if they thought there was a chance of TFG winning.
But no...now we get to see all the Billionaires lining behind Putin.
I'll bet anyone that they're being offered positions of replacement Oligarchs without all the baggage the current Russian Oligarchs have.
Forgetting that Putin is a Capo, and a Front, for the Russian Mob.
Windows can very much be in their future if they won't fall in line, and it won't matter if they're American "citizens", or world citizens, or whatever.
Bezos thinks about freedom for him and his projects and places them above the country and Democracy that gave him access to his money.
Altogether a pretty lame excuse for a rather venal act.

(9,002 posts)It demonstrates clear bias. I'm clearly in the minority here but this is a very reasonable decision for a news media company to make. There is an optics issue given the proximity to that Trump meeting and the election but shit like this happens. It could be a response to CNN and FXN both moving a bit towards the center as opposed to Bezos being in Trump's back pocket.

(425 posts)Id be more inclined to believe it was a principled decision if it was made and announced before or during the primaries. The cynic in me doesnt believe there hasnt been communication from Trumps team to most sizable corporations about the potential costs and benefits of taking various positions on this election. It seems like this close to the wire some are seeing how likely that presidency may be and hedging to protect their bottom line.

(10,694 posts)Everybody knows you didnt endorse Harris because youre scared of what the fascist dictator Trump will do to your businesses if he wins. Lying about it just makes it all the worse. Now you can add being a liar to being a coward.

(4,154 posts)If you have not read Susan Caseys book The Underworld: Journeys to the Depths of the Ocean its likely this statement by Bezos would mean nothing to you. But, it scares me for this reason: TFG has a political friend named Elon Musk and Musk claims to be rich enough to establish civilization in space. Bezos is almost as rich as Musk and has a company named Blue Origins. Bezos intent with Blue Origins is to explore the seas at depths that not even the Navy has explored. Exploration by Blue Origins has already begun.
In Caseys book she lights on the environmental dangers from the undersea mining opportunities that those with money (Bezos) can afford to undertake.
Musk in control of the above. Bezos in control of the below.
