(13,003 posts)the Thom Hartmann and Greg Palast interview where they talk about the Red States, refusing to report the votes, and upsetting the electoral college votes to the point neither gets to the 270 votes to win? then the 12th Amendment kicks in and it goes to the U.S. House for them to decide the winner????????

(7,790 posts)they've gotten away with so much for so long without any consequences that they just feel they can do anything right now. That came to an abrupt halt with the MSG hate fest. At least some of his campaign staff know without a doubt how most of America feels about their candidate now. And I laugh if the reports are true that the lawyers are worried about getting indicted or losing their licenses like the 2020 lawyers have.
The law, as I was taught way back when, was not to punish. It was not to exact revenge or retribution upon a person. It was to teach them the error of their ways and to rehabilitate them to the point where they could become a proper functioning member of society. We lost that credo a LONG time ago. Since at least the time of Nixon's drug war, it's been all about punishment and retribution, until that became internalized as part of the republican platform, itself. I think (hope) trump is about to understand the difference between the law as intended and the law as implemented in his type of world... not that I think he could ever be "rehabbed" to be a functional part of society.

(22,218 posts)Conventional wisdom says you up your campaign discipline - no loose cannons, drop the inflammatory, stay on message and at least attempt to be positive this close to election day. The simple reason is, many voters decide in the final days of a campaign and if something really blows up, you've got no time to recover. Seriously, how freaking dumb are those people? Certainly good for our side, but jebbers!

(25,324 posts)He must think he is mobilizing them to turn out en masse, but he destroyed the ground game by siphoning off money and turning it over to a moron who only believes in reducing human workers and has absolutely no grasp of business as a human activity, only in automating it. Its all about singular control, and thats why he bought an entire platform: to automate people under his control.
But I digress.
For those of us who have lived a while, the rransformation of what was the GOP from a small government party to one of dictatorial control is amazing.
DONT LET IT HAPPEN.

(5,179 posts)About 8 or 9 years ago when the Media started identifying that Latinos were now the largest minority group in America, I wondered when the GOP would start attacking them as a group. It was not a question of "if", to me it was just a question of When.
There was a fairly radical shift in the GOP when Trump won the primary the first time. Until then, the conventional wisdom was that the GOP needed to reach out to the Latino vote because of shifting demographics - if they wanted to hold onto power, they needed to reach out to the Latino community. After Trump, that doctrine was thrown out the window. The new GOP would bring in those who had been out in the wilderness: the Klan, neo-Nazis, Southern Racists and White Supremacists, misogynists, the arch-Fundamentalists, the conspiracy theorists, the survival militia types ... all of the fringe types motivated primarily by hatred and a desire to overthrow the system. Surprisingly (or perhaps not) this included a fair number of blacks and Latinos (especially men), who liked Trump's strongman gangster image, and thought that they would be welcomed with open arms.
At first, they were, which is why you did see blacks and Latinos at Trump rallies, for a few years anyway. But if you look around today, you notice that there are very few people of color in Trump's orbit, and the ones that are generally are the ones that could most pass for white. Similarly, you see fewer Jews, and almost no Asians. The ones who remain are still used as props, but they have no real authority, and are not trusted with any power.
This is the way Trump wants it. I don't even think that it's all that conscious a strategy; rather, he's been purging minorities and women from the ranks because he doesn't want to be contaminated by them.
Dan
(5,179 posts)....to carry that idea to its logical conclusion - would you say that this a desire on the part of the GOP to purge America of minorities? Maybe like Germany in the 1930's, a gradual indoctrination of making "racial hatred" acceptable to the masses?
PortTack
(35,820 posts)(Germany is for Germans only) And was spoken at the 1939 MSG nazi rally.
Dan
(5,179 posts)America is not Germany.
Americans are not as civilized as the Germans were in 1930s.
America, truth be told, we can be a vicious, violent nation.
I suspect that when they (GOP) decide to put people in internment camps - they will definitely be some blow-back.
Maybe Trump figures to use Putin's Army, cause the American army is full of "undesirables".
I hope that Donald Jr. decides to lead the charge to make America for Americans only - plus, I would like to hear them define what are true Americans.

(3,768 posts)2020, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that the 2024 election will be stolen, and 45 will become 47. The guardrails are gone. Buckle up folks. It's gonna get bad.
We still need to vote in huge numbers, and I will, but the other side has too many ways to steal it. The framers never imagined a candidate this depraved, or a big part of the electorate this brainwashed.
It is, in my opinion, insurmountable.
