I swear this is a political post.
Anyone from DU who watches that scene where Georgie is talking to his father at his gravesite, and who sees Georgie get his first panic attack because of the stress he is dealing with: finding a place to live and making a living to support his family, can see the possible framework to tell the story of the young white male, disenfranchised in America. Not that I think that Georgie will go that way, but the writers have a rare opportunity here, through possibly his acquaintances, to explain that whole demographic that is going in a totally different direction than we are.
Because, Georgie is the epitome of the non-college white male. I realize it's a comedy, and sometimes comedies can get themselves into trouble when they actually try to say something meaningful, as it happened to Seinfeld, but it might be the only way that I would actually keep watching the spin-off.

(22,569 posts)Same with Young Sheldon. I've got Paramount Plus, and I will binge watch it eventually.
Amusing that Georgie and Mandie is a spinoff of a spinoff. The Big Bang Theory franchise has been on CBS now for 17 years and counting.

(29,714 posts)Im confident that all of Georgies seemingly insurmountable problems will be resolved in due time. It could be interpreted as affirmation of the American dream - whatever that means to the individual. I watched the opening episode and found myself losing interest before the end.

(4,089 posts)Or a alternate future Sheldon where the Young Sheldon philosophy class turns Sheldon to a academic life in the Philosophy department, specifically "ethics". The story picks up when Sheldon retires.
Philosophy is perfect for Sheldon because philosophers never get invited to parties and no one wants to talk to an 'ethicist'.

(486 posts)I didn't watch the Charlie Sheen vehicle because it was just too coarse for me, and I came late to BBT because it wiped out another show that was FAR better (Community), but once I got into BBT, I found more and more often that it really gave me something to appreciate and think about (and yes, I know what some people think of it's treatment of several demographics). Bob and Abishola was a show about the immigrant experience during the height of TSF's border nonsense, and was surprisingly perceptive, I thought. Chuck Lorre is a successful Hollywood TV writer and he still provides perspective and insight that we could all do with more of.
