No matter how big the landslide is.
Even if he's incarcerated.
Even if he's institutionalized.
And there isn't a republican who can stand against him.

(26,202 posts)and I was wrong, it's under 2% for for 80-84, and even lower for 85 to 89.
He'll be 82 and if he won, leave office at 86. He's too old. Odds are (based on the numbers) he won't be here in 4 years.

(38,634 posts)Expectancy, men who are 78 have about 9 more years on average. Men with higher incomes tend to live longer than average.

TFG just wants to get in office to stay out of jail while alive. If he dies in office, he probably doesnt care.

(5,270 posts)Yes, hes wealthy, but he is also not particularly healthy. If he was, he would absolutely be parading his medical records everywhere. Id love to see what maintenance prescriptions hes taking because Im sure its not a short list.
Hes almost certainly taking drugs for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and hes probably a type II diabetic.

(4,039 posts)He's losing his faculties daily. In a few months he won't be able to give a speech. He already can't do an interview or a town hall. He can't run again and this isn't about his age, it's about how he is aging.
He won't ever choose not to run or decide to give up or get back in touch with reality. He just won't be able to do what he had to do. When the embarrassment can't be masked his minions will desert him.

(2,493 posts)issue. It doesn't matter if the moderate repubs are tired of him. All he has to do is file the paperwork, and the cult will overwhelm the primaries and make him the candidate. All the moderate repubs can do is watch it happen.

See you back here in four years to see whos right.

(25,577 posts)and all his little treasonous plots fail...
The first thing he does is set up his 28 campaign so he can continue to suck up all the money from the GOP base he will keep angry about the latest stolen election.
This keeps anyone else from building up a war chest.
Next thing you know, he's the nominee.
He just needs to keep acting like it's his party.
Because it is.
Until he dies.
and he needs the suckers money.

(1,284 posts)If Mr. Trump is breathing, he will need to dispute he lost. It is a desperate need he has. He will be more unhinged too.
That said I am hoping his terror of incarceration will have him fleeing the country following what I hope will be a blow out against him. It will be easier to reclaim our lost neighbors from his thrall if he flees. I would rather have them back in reality than get a pound of Mr. Trumps flesh.

Metaphorical
(2,634 posts)He showed his hand in 2020, and it's a lot weaker now.
* He's pissed off a lot of groups that voted FOR him in 2020
* He's created a significant body of precedent against him at the court level that will make a lot harder for him to file spurious suits
* 34 convictions for fraud.
* He's known even among his most ardent supporters as a conman.
* He's been checked with just about every political machination he's made
* He's become less and less lucid
* Physically, his body is seriously abused
* Financially, he's severely compromised
* At some point, SOMEONE is going to do an accounting of the books at the RNC and likely won't like what they've found
* He's been the target *twice* of assassinations by his supposed supporters
* January 6 trial is waiting in the wings
* Many of his lieutenants are in prison.
The question ultimately is whether he has any coattails. He's not having a lot of luck with the people he's backing for office. If he loses AND it looks like he's taken many politicians with him, he's done - no one is going to take his calls, is going to seek him out for interviews, is even going to give him the time of day. MAGA will crawl back under the rock from which it emerged.
My expectation is that if he loses bad enough, he will be on a Saudi flight in the middle of the night, and that a few months later, he will discover that even in Saudi Arabia, the windows do open if you throw someone at them hard enough.
Wiz Imp
(9,997 posts)In 2028 he will either be in prison or dead. He'll still control the Republican party as long as he's alive, even if he does it from prison, but he is done as a candidate.

(4,468 posts)I really don't think he'll stay around past Election Day when he loses. Really, he has a sentencing date coming up soon after the election and he'll stick around long enough to scam as many dollars from his marks as he can then he'll just disappear just before sentencing. I hate that because I want to see the sorry bastard in handcuffs, but I really do not believe he'll be here.
