Former President Donald Trump railed against hydrogen fuel cell vehicles once again on Monday by conjuring up a graphic and gruesome scenario involving one of his biggest acolytes, far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

The Republican presidential nominee repeated to a campaign rally audience in Atlanta the questionable claim — that he has voiced on multiple occasions now — that hydrogen cars can explode and therefore render its driver completely unrecognizable.

According to Car and Driver magazine, though, the cars “are widely considered as safe as any other car” and “no injuries or deaths specific to the hydrogen components have been recorded in the relatively small number of HFCVs sold to date.”

Trump has previously fearmongered over the wives of hydrogen fuel-cell car drivers not being able to recognize their husbands “lying against a tree and the tree has a lot of red on it” and “strong guys” with “very wealthy parents” being utterly obliterated in a crash involving them.

It rose majestically, then erupted in a slow burning yellow ball, no sound, no explosion.

16. You're Mixture Was Off

Per unit mass, hydrogen has 3x the energy of combustion of gasoline.
Also, the laminar flame front velocity of hydrogen ranges (depending on deviation from ideal stoichiometry) from a bit under 300-2,800cm/s. Gasoline maxes out at around 54cm/s.
So, the pressure wave is the square root of 6 to square root of 50 greater.
Your experiment with hydrogen was far riskier than any similar experiment with gasoline.
Of course, the risk inherent is that to get the same mass of gasoline vapor you might have liquid gasoline in the balloon which would, in fact, pose a greater fire risk.
But, if you're balloon was filled only with gasoline vapor it would be less dangerous than what you did.
As to my title, if you were anything close to the correct hydrogen/oxygen mixture it would have definitely been a high velocity conflagration, or in layman's terms, an explosion.
