"garbage" in regard to the racist comments made at the MSG.
So some of the media is offended because President Biden used the word "garbage" for supporting the racism that has perpetrated throughout trump's campaign where he has been referring to fellow Americans with racism, sexism, along with calling anyone against him every foul name in the book, and the "enemy of the people".
What a double standard much of our illustrious members of the press have. Trump has been referring to America and American cities as garbage and dumps.
There is something very wrong with much of the press in the country.
Hey members of the press, President Biden isn't running for President, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are, and there is only one candidate whose entire campaign is filled with constant racist, sexist, and bigoted rhetoric, and that some in the press cannot seem to differentiate that, speaks volumes of the failure of our press.
Hint: if you support someone who is a racist, sexist, who employs constant bigoted hatred, if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it's a duck.
Stop the excuses and the sane washing already. It wasn't just one joke from one so-called comedian at MSG. That was a hatefest.

(8,849 posts)Trump was an unknown as was the true nature of his supporters...for years the NYT was filled with articles devoted to "understanding the Trump voter"...well, guess what..in 2024 we understand the Trump voter..we understand that they cling to Trump because they share a mutual hatred for "the other"...we understand Trump is their last hope of holding onto an America that no longer exists..white christian male dominance..we understand Trump's Hitler speak...his need to denigrate, diminish, control, punish, crush...so when Joe's "garbage" comment is taken out of context by Trump sucker fish Maggie Haberman writing for a paper that has sane-washed Trump's hate vomit for almost a decade, we don't really give a fuck if the "deplorable garbage" clutch their pearls and take umbrage with the truth....the election is less than a week away..Kamala is going to win....relax

(1,277 posts)Trump calling people garbage is no longer news, though they do report on it, but yes obviously there is a double standard.
But to the question if how could this earn votes - here on Earth One Biden is seen as a decent and honorable person. He is seen as kind and compassionate even by some who weren't supporters. For him to use that language could be "alarming" to undecideds.
At least this is possible and the best hopeful scenario.

"Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbagewhich is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation."

the entire campaign has been about violent retribution and virulent disdain of several demographics for months.
This wasnt a one off scenario; there is precedent for this language; and the medias complicity in explaining it away.
Anyone with a grade school comprehension level should be able to discern President Bidens comment.
President Biden is exactly right; its GARBAGE!

And, btw, Harris had 75,000 supporters in front of the DC monuments, who did you not give her last night instead of some shit Trump was doing.

The media should be talking about the booming economy. This mistake, and lets face it, he did say it, is distracting from that great news.
This name calling that so many of you enjoy is not gaining a single vote around here. In the swing state of PA. We all have family and friends voting for him. Stop calling them names. Attack him all you want.

(10,484 posts)the blatant double standard wherein Trump & his cult can say any vile thing they want and it's ignored or no big deal is made of it in the media. Yet anything with the slightest chance of being blown up & used against Dems is.
Considering the endless stream of hateful or racist or nasty or riduculous crap coming from RWers, this is massively unfair. But we know that's how it is. Joe knows that's how it is.
Seems it came out of his mouth without him taking a sec to consider it. It's something most of us have done, but It was a poorly timed, potentially very consequential mistake to give them this gaffe to hypocritically use against Harris.
So frustrating! Joe is known for his gaffes. Maybe he ought to hibernate for a week.

(2,248 posts)Joe should have known that the media would jump on it and now it's all everyone is talking about, not Harris' speech. Fair or not, it deflated a lot of Harris' message last night that she would not demonize those who opposed her.
It's the two top trending topics on twitter right now and has been since last night.
In an extremely tight election, where every hour now is important, this is not what the Harris campaign needed.
Hope it blows over by day's end.

(5,455 posts)why the President decided to use the same word as that racist comedian. (12,533 posts)I knew immediately that President Biden would get dragged on the comment because the press has missed their favorite football. Despite the rich and endless Trump spew, the media can't help itself when it comes to Joe Biden.
My husband said: Wait for it. This is going to be a repeat of Hillary Clinton's remark on the deplorables.
Press Alert: President Biden has accomplished more than any president in my living memory. President Biden is not on the ticket this year. Kamala Harris just delivered an outstanding closing argument about democracy, freedom and the future with 75,000+ Americans in attendance and millions of viewers, a stark counterpoint to the disgusting performance that Donald Trump and his ghouls offered, a redux of Springtime for Hitler. His audience cheered every vile statement.
The word 'garbage' is offensive? So where was the outrage when Trump referred to the United States as the garbage can of the world?
Once this election is over, we all need a serious conversation regarding the failures of the American media.
