Here's some interesting good news:

On Wednesdays I practice in what is essentially a Medicaid office which is very rewarding in many ways. I don’t know ten words of Spanish and 80% of the clientele are native speakers and many essentially know no English. Both my staff members are bilingual and we do great.

My receptionist/ business manager hails from Puerto Rico and we talk politics quite often because she’s one of us. So I came in this morning, put my stuff down and said “Whoeee…I can only imagine how you were feeling about your favorite ( ) person in the whole world.” Her reply was “Everyone I know, no matter what Central American or South American country they’re from is saying : ‘We are all Puerto Ricans now.”

Solidarity.

It’s hard to find dentists that accept many Medicaid patients because the reimbursement rates are low and the hoops they have to go through ridiculous.

I liked working with them because they are truly community oriented and give a darn. Their staff were the same.

If you’ve come across the phrase “Chinga tu maga” and wondered what it means in Spanish, you might be in for a surprise. This particular phrase is considered vulgar and offensive. It is not a common phrase used in everyday conversation, and it is important to exercise caution when using or encountering such language. The phrase “Chinga tu maga” is a profanity in Spanish, specifically in Mexican slang. It is a derogatory expression that translates to “Fuck your mother.” While profanities and offensive language exist in every language, it is crucial to be aware of their implications and to use them responsibly, if at all./blockquote]

that that phrase would be "Chinga tu madre".

"Chinga tu maga" is "Fuck your MAGA", which is a phrase I personally use on an hourly basis in as many languages as I can remember.

there has been a huge push by many evangelical churches to convert Catholics in Latin American countries as well as in the US. And along with their religion goes their extremely reich-wing politics.

I would say that through the 2000s-2010s though, that there was a growing dividing line between first gen Cuban immigrants (solid GOP) and second (slight lean Dem), that's gone. I concur with the comment on Fundamentalist Protestant affiliation being the big driver, along with Spanish-language social media trash

My Spanish has improved considerably, but not remotely fluent.

I have always envied those who are truly bi- or multi-lingual.

When, after some 25 years of marriage, my now ex met another woman he decided he'd rather be with, I decided I wasn't about to stay in Kansas. I looked at several different parts of the country and I'm very happy I moved here.
