Wow! 20 years on DU!!!

I find it wonderful being here now where the site is unified.

Twenty years ago it was Clarkies and Deaniacs fighting like cats and dogs even as Clark had been out for months already and the power center was with John Kerry. The sides were vicious. Sparkly and I were Clarkies until we supported Kerry.

Then it was Obama supporters vs Clinton supporters. My memory of that is less rancorous than '04. We backed Hillary and we still hold her in the highest regard.

And now, being first time grandparents, my focus is again on family, hence my reduced posting. But I read here every day. Life is good.

I remember you from long ago. Can't remember if we've ever strongly agreed or disagreed on anything, and I spent most of my time at DU in the first couple of years hunkered down in the I/P forum.

Like you, I read here now far more than I post. Not because of a family focus, but as I've gotten older and less idealistic, I've learnt when it's a good time to bite my tongue rather than jumping in boots and all. And DU just isn't the same place as I remembered it being long ago

8. I was with Kerry from the start

of course the campaign got swiftboated

back when gaslighting and the vapors were underground (unacknowledged but still done)
They wanted to grab that flag tight and keep others from it, all the while hating their own country to the bone.
Eventually Shrub decided that the stars and bars confederate flag wasn't the one he was backing.
But today....who knows his silence speaks volumes.

now, the magats don't give a fuck and the racism is all out in the open.

I actually am ok with them being open about it. It makes the choices clear.
I despise the fakeness of that bygone era.

We missed out on what a great President Kerry would have made.
