General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNow the Trump campaign is walking back the Liz Cheney comments. Saying they were taken out of context.
Every fucking morning, I wake up to a tearful spouse, and it's the same thing every day. First thing: "HOW CAN HE SAY THESE THINGS"?
For pretty much an entire decade, we have been gaslighted by these assholes. We have been terrorized. We have been flabbergasted. We have been confused. And we have been damaged.
We can say that we are strong, and we sure are without a doubt, but the psyche of this country has been damaged.
We have been harmed. Anyone who thinks they are strong enough to have not been harmed is lying to themselves.
We have had a dark piece of cloth placed over our brains, affecting our mental health in ways we probably can't fully understand yet.
So to Trump, and to the Trump campaign: Fuck you and fuck everything you love.
Your hero is going to get his ass handed to him next week, and there is not a fucking thing you can do about it.
And then we can begin to heal from your hateful and juvenile antics. And you will be mocked and belittled for eternity. I have to give you assholes credit for one thing: You certainly left your mark on history.
Congratulations assholes. Get ready, because you have lost.
And then we can begin to heal. The good people can begin to heal.

He has no loyalty so if they dissatisfy him, they will be the ones in front of a firing squad he ordered.
He belongs in prison for the rest of his vile life, but unfortunately too many people were too concerned about optics, to treat him as the clear and present danger to the country that he is.

(8,475 posts)from Dick Cheney at 6:00am this morning over this shit? Like, "You better hope Trump wins, because you will NEVER fucking work in Republican politics again if I can help it." And Dick Cheney can make that happen. Whatever we might think of him, Dick Cheney is nobody to be trifled with. The MAGA diehards won't care, of course, but the hangers-on don't want that smoke.

Dick Cheney?? Michelle Obama ?? Daughter Barbara??
The damage his administration did cannot be undone, but there are things that he CAN do to make amends. If he cares even remotely about a "legacy".

(10,029 posts)As far as positioning themselves goes, younger Bushes with political ambitions might have better prospects for success if they can somehow get themselves free and clear of the Orange Menace. Having "Uncle Shrub" do so as a family surrogate could accomplish that.

(2,660 posts)Making a hateful or demeaning statement, then, when enough pushback comes, saying that you didn't really mean it or it was taken out of context, or even "that's not what I said."
One of the first things that anyone in a leadership position learns is to be much more guarded about what they say. Their words have authority, and even if they may happen to believe a certain thing, actually saying it is may bring about unintended (or even intended) consequences. Case in point - King Henry II's comment - "Can someone not rid me of this meddlesome priest?" - which let to the death of Thomas Beckett, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1170 AD.
Trump is a master of this, as in the latest situation with Liz Cheney and as was clearly the case with Jan 6. No command is ever explicitly given, but instead, every attack is couched in deniable terms. And if something bad should happen to the target in question, well "I never said that. Obviously the person who committed the attack was mentally ill. Too bad he isn't around now to talk."
Trump is a mob boss in everything but name.
