I subscribed to daily newspapers to support Democracy. I was wrong

With the advent of the Internet and digital news and opinion, the daily newspaper business has been in jeopardy for decades. Print news even more. You can get better sports new, better political analysis, better cooking, better classifieds, better everything on the Internet and less cost. What you could not get is opinion from a respected group of learned journalists. Now that that is gone. Time to move on. I am supporting online sports such as ESPN, online political MeidasTouch, RawStory and others, to many cooking and recipe sites to list, and of course Ebay, Google Marketplace and CraigsList already own the classifieds market. Goodbye daily newspapers.

are going to provide you with local news. What do you use to find out what's happening in your town/city?

Done properly, there's still a vital role for local news to hold local/regional politicians accountable, to ensure the public is aware of decisions and controversies involving school boards, councils and sheriff's offices, etc.

You may get that information from online media outlets rather than in physical newspaper form, but the work of local journalists can still be of great value.

be it TV, radio or print, that is doing the job effectively, then that's good to hear. There are too many growing "news deserts" out there. It makes it even easier for MAGA B.S. to spread.

That's how I get my news about what is going on in my neighborhood, sadly.

Really, they dont have beat reporters as far as i can tell. They seem to have bots pick things up off the net.

Unless its something really juicy that all the major media would cover anyway, its not really local coverage.

Its ai generated, or it might as well be. The days of mike barnackle (sp?) Are long gone.
