(6,551 posts)They knew who and what he was/is. They deserve to go down with him. As far as Im concerned anyone who worked to get trump elected are worse than deplorable.
They just expected that he was compos mentis enough to facilitate them grifting off the USA and imposing their crackpot ideas on the rest of us.

(2,905 posts)who/what he was when they saw him mock that disabled reporter. Whatever "run the country like a business" delusions they harbored before then, they should have figured out this person was scum and should never be allowed near the levers of power.

(4,039 posts)but we have to be grateful every time one of them finds there is a line for them. We're grateful for Dick Chenery, Lynn Cheney, and all the Republicans who have gotten on board for Harris. It takes principles and guts to change your whole paradigm. The further down the rabbit hole you were, the harder it is. Even though the line should have happened long long ago.
But if reaching that line they are still trying to get him elected, that's a whole other thing. An anonymous tip to a reporter 3 days before an election is something, but not enough.

(15,424 posts)Trump represents the force of chaos.
Vance/Thiel/Musk represent the forces of tyranny.
The culture wars represent things intended to distract us from the actual issues.
Thus, Trump is trying to distract us, playing a billionaire-funded shell game, while Harris and her campaign are stressing plans to address a variety of issues.
In the end, people walk away from hucksters playing the shell game.

(26,008 posts)But your comment about Trump representing the "force of chaos" reminded me of the forces of CONTROL vs. The forces of KAOS in Get Smart.
Staying with the comparison, Trump would be a double agent, pretending to work for the good guys at CONTROL but actually working as a KAOS agent. And that is not very far from the reality of Trump being a Putin stooge puppet.

(4,039 posts)as a kid watching that show. I just knew my Dad liked it so it was the only show with "violence" that we were allowed to watch.
I knew it was funny but obviously I was missing half the jokes. Thanks for taking me back and cluing me in.
The best parody tells the truth, as you have suggested. Trump is for sure a double agent for KAOS/Putin.

(26,008 posts)One of the most popular catch phrases among the high school kids then was from Get Smart. "Sorry about that, chief." It was our go to apology line for anything that went wrong.

(35,075 posts)to working for him. All of the information is already available.
It seems like the more outrageous and outlandish trump behaves, the more he is insulated by his own antics. For example, when I mentioned the garbage truck stunt to my mom the other day, she said, oh that was fake. She thought the entire thing was a photoshopped meme.
I wonder how many people just automatically assume that tRump's worst stunts are just made up Internet memes?
