(1,226 posts)It was a such big treat when Dad and Mom loaded us kids into our Pontiac station wagon took us to A&M for root beer! Some childhood memories are just the best and sustain you in trying times such as these. Thanks for the memory jog. I may just have to get some root beer and put a glass mug in the freezer in preparation. 35 years sober for me.

Its the one time Id like to be hungover!
In 2016 the day after the orange turd won I was substitute teaching a 3rd grade class and the kids were so depressed and it was hard to teach, all they wanted to do is talk about how scared they were from their grandparents and relatives who were immigrants. Inside I was almost crying but kept it together for them.

(3,900 posts)I said in 2008 that if Obama won, I would literally dance in the street. And when he won, I walked outside and did just that. I did it again in 2012, and again in 2020.
And after Kamala wins, I will walk outside and dance in the street again.

(2,956 posts)When Obama won in 2008, I went down to the local store that had a variety of cigars and bought one for around $12. I'd had a few in the past, but they were less expensive and of the smaller variety and I didn't enjoy them.
I must say, this one was incredible! I'm in SoCal, so the weather was nice, and I smoked it in the backyard. SO good that for many months afterwards I would get several for the weekend. I lost interest after awhile, but I might try one again.
The interesting thing is that I've always hated the smell of cigar smoke, but for some reason, when I was the one smoking one, they smelled fine.

(38,637 posts)2016 is too fresh in my memory. I was at end of a day in the county BOE working as an observer. My day started at 5:30 AM, and we were not yet done watching the ballots come in from all of the precincts when Ohio was called for Trump at around 10:30. It was a long ride home, and by the time I got home, Trump's victory was all but sealed.
I'd spent the weeks leading up to that night encouraging people here not to be so cocky - that Clinton's election was not yet in the bag - and being berated for it.
This time I'm cautiously optimistic - much more so than I was in 2016. But - the egg has not yet hatched, so it's too soon to talk about celebrating Trump's loss.
RobinA
(10,478 posts)either. I live in a purple area of PA, and the place is wallpapered with Trump crap. I was actually MORE confident about Hillary in 2016. I was driving home from work that day and thought I would stop by a convenience store and get the largest Reese's Cup I could find to celebrate when Hillary won. I decided not to because I have an irrational jinx fear. Well, there was nothing to celebrate that time and I'm even more worried this time. I'm thinking maybe a bottle of champagne and a cyanide capsule would probably cover all possibilities, but no. I'm hoping the wave of relief if Trump loses will be the only celebration I need.

(79,051 posts)I have a couple of old friends coming over. They have worked with me on social-political issues for 50 years. Both of them drink alcohol, though I do not. But my kids have left massive quantities of it in my house. I like to smoke herb, and have saved a chunk of hash for special events.

(26,915 posts)It's funny now that it's legal in this state. I am old, as are my friends. The guys get together to complain that this hurts, that hurts, and that "It's not the same country we grew up in!" Then we turn to discussing pot, and what is common is that we have am adjustment disorder post-legalization. We don't drive high, but are still anxious if we have a small, fully legal bit of weed in the car. Gone are the days of 50 years ago, when as college students, we drove with pounds of the stuff, etc. (Lots of etc)
I live in the sticks, far away from the road, yet since legalization I am more aware of smoking a joint while gardening. But good weed is the best medication for this adjustment disorder, especially nights filled with happiness and merriment when Harris crushed the sociopathic felon.

(23,606 posts). . .because I'm an election worker, and where I live, polls close at 9 pm and then I have to work at closing up shop according to protocol, calling in results, and turning over equipment to the drop-off place.
Odds are, I won't be back home 'till midnight - and I'm going to bed to sleep for 10 hours straight.
No TV, no social media, etc. until late the next morning.
Just so's y'all know, my day Tuesday starts at 3:30 AM, when I wake up, force down a big breakfast and get to my polling site by 5:00 AM to set up for polls to open at 6:00 AM.
Celebrating (or comiseration) will happen later in the week.
In the meantime, I suggest y'all brace yourselves for the next 76 days after the election, because there's not a snowball's chance in hell Trump will ever concede. No matter what. Who knows what kind of shit he's gonna try to pull in that period.

(1,226 posts)I know how grueling and rewarding it is as I did it for 20 years until my eyes no longer allow me to drive in the dark. And with those early morning and late night hours, there is plenty of darkness driving required. I applaud all the poll workers out there doing democracy for the rest of us. Thank you!

(1,783 posts)When you wake up Wednesday, you'll know it has all been to make America safe again even if the Trump people won't let go. It didn't work in 2020 and it won't work now. Just more noise in the machine, signifying nothing, reaping nothing.

(11,850 posts)that Biden/Harris won the E.C. vote.
I honestly don't know when we'll be notified for this years win. Will the results come in like normal? Or do we have to wait for several intense days like the previous election?
I still have to go to bed at a decent hour on Tuesday because I still get up early to go to work.
Even if we're given the (hopefully) good news about a Harris/Walz win, I'll have to wait until Wednesday morning to find out.
I can't believe we're almost there. I'm election exhausted and I want it to be over with.
Let's go, Harris/Walz!

(10,833 posts)In NC, for example, 4 million have already voted early and only a little over 1 million will vote on election day. That result should be almost guaranteed by midnight. Same with Georgia. If Harris wins NC I am popping the cork.

(11,850 posts)I went to vote early and in-person last Saturday and the entire process took me 20 to 25 minutes. The line was longer then I expected it to be and that's okay.
I'll be asleep at midnight but I'll be getting up for work by 5:30am.
I'll celebrate by making tacos for dinner!

(4,246 posts)Meeting at our local pizza place w pizzas and some drinks and lots of good company. Well be hoping for hearing good results during that time, tho some elections may take longer to know. Being on the west coast, we could very well know whos the next president by then.
Im remembering back to the first Obama election, waiting at a jazz club in the Fillmore in SF, finding out so rapidly that Obama had won. Tears of joy and relief all over the room.

(13,018 posts)Here. I want to feel the joy 100 percent natural and stay awake as long as possible to feel it.
And even dealing with one hell of a case of Plantar facia, and extreme sciatica in the same leg, I will even dance through it.
And I cant dance at all. But sometimes ya gotta let the joy flow.
A victory will be a high, the likes of which this one time hippy never experienced before, and totally naturally induced.
But, after a day or two, I will uncork a fine red, and as I mellow from it all, Sit on the deck with my dogs and grin.
I retired in 2012, and he has shit on the majority of it all. I could go back to the joy of retirement, and feel safe with my income, as small as it is, but I planned to live cheap.
About time for some JOY to the Fucking World.
When he gets locked up, OMFG!!!!
