(11,846 posts)For the entire county.
This another example of needing nationwide minimums for voting opportunities
The feds should make them stay open until last one in line is through
Same in Cuyahoga (Cleveland).
I plan to vote on election day, because OH makes it difficult to vote early in person for those who live in large counties. So we can't put up really large early voter numbers (like in Georgia) since there is only one voting place per county.

(790 posts)I moved here from NH about two years ago. My previous home state is solidly going for Harris.
My biggest practical hope for Ohio is that we keep Sherrod Brown in the Senate.
LisaL
(47,424 posts)Even if OH doesn't turn blue for president, I hope we can keep Sherrod Brown in the Senate. Of course it wouldn't hurt to elect Harris as well (one can dream).
ShazzieB
(22,612 posts)Sherrod Brown is under a lot of pressure this time from his billionaire opponent, who has been spending money like a drunken sailor. I wish I could afford to send him a chunk of money, but I just can't.

Edit: now seeing that he ordered them lowered on Friday for the two mayors, then turned around yesterday and ordered them lowered for the former Rep in this area.

Can GenZ flip Ohio?? Is it possible???

(1,257 posts)Folks shouldn't have to endure lines like this. period.
It was bad in my county in MO. We had two places we could vote early in Jackson County outside of KCMO. In the city their election board had six places to early vote. The rest of the county outside KC, had two. Many unhappy voters!
The line I was in was two and half hours wait. Had to use my wheelchair because I cant stand that long. One day I heard one line was a four hour wait.
crud
(1,257 posts)within 5 miles of me, and also 10 drop boxes. I have never seen lines like this in CA. No one in this country should face lines like that in order to vote. When some folks go to vote and see this they turn around and go home.
did, but it was a nice day and didnt want to take a chance that we plan to vote another day and it would be raining.

(22,612 posts)I'd have to wear Depends. No way can I go that long without using the bathroom.

(7,692 posts)Plenty of booths and plenty of racists working them. Rove made sure this system was put in place. Sick a-holes we need to contend with.

(10,497 posts)No ne should have to stand in line for hours to vote. Making it harder to vote supresses the vote.

(7,814 posts).... this statement. "I swear I will NEVER STAND in lines again for anything."
I solved my line problem by moving to a small town ~ of 8,000 people. The people went to vote first thing in the morning.
Now, with age, health issues, and the COVID pandemic, the wife and I both vote by mail-in ballot.
I haven't missed a chance to vote since I was first eligible. I was on the ballots running for the school board several times, and I was elected twice.

(17,625 posts)These lines are ridiculous. However, it does show how dedicated voters are to stand in lines this long for their right to vote.
LisaL
(47,424 posts)People obviously want to vote in person.
llmart
(17,625 posts)Well, then all the more impressive that the lines are this long.

Im seeing pictures from other counties in Ohio and the lines are impressively long. Not just blue strongholds but red areas like Portage and Clark.
Diamond_Dog
(40,609 posts)But there shouldnt be such a long wait to vote. This needs to change. Like someone else said, others who come to vote may see this and turn around and leave.

So easy with confirmation of your ballot being received and counted.

(6,644 posts)There were many cars in the lot when I went to vote, but I was able to walk right in, get signed in and head right over to a machine. I realize not everyone can do that due to family and job commitments, but there has been voting the last two weekends in addition to the the weeks it was available during the week.
I implore everyone who insists on voting in person to have a plan for '28 to do so earlier in the process. I only say that because looking at those pics makes me wonder how many people saw that and just turned around and went home, and that would be a shame.

(6,644 posts)The last time I voted on election day (2008) it was a zoo. It was cold, rainy and packed, and I vowed 'never again'. It just feels so good to get it done early and cross it off of your list.

(2,533 posts)One would think it would be. They have disappointed us in the last couple of elections.
Is it brain drain? Perhaps because the more educated move out of the state?
What is it? Why are the not blue? Can someone explain to me like I'm five, I don't feel like googling.

(47,424 posts)red rural counties.

(13,884 posts)for them to not turn around and leave is to have people passing out water, snacks, etc., anything to make them feel more comfortable standing in that crazy line.

(13,393 posts)In many jurisdictions under-allocation of resources in democratic leaning area create long lines. And when it happens on election day, people leave. People leave especially if they believe "she's already won it."
As we face the hurdles that are being erected, overconfidence is a turnout killer.
