WSJ: Western security officials believe Russias GRU intelligence agency tried to smuggle incendiary devices, disguised as electric massagers, onto planes headed to the U.S. and Canada. The devices ignited at DHL hubs in Germany and England, sparking arrests of four suspects in Poland. This plot is seen as part of a larger Russian sabotage effort targeting the West, leading U.S. and European agencies to increase air-cargo security.

All kidding aside, was this a serious attempt to bring down a cargo plane around election day?

(106,236 posts)Lithium batteries catch fire; they could have designed things to do that on purpose. Like the pagers in Lebanon. There could be sealed bits of explosive to help things along, if they can be sealed so well they don't allow any volatile molecules off them for detectors.
