Amy Siskind:

Musk is making pretty big claims about a bought ground game. I have been knocking doors every weekend since late August in a swing state or a House district he is chasing. I have yet to see a single person canvassing for Trump. Not one. In past cycles I would see real Republicans canvassing.

The problem is I can't really explain why he would be doing that, other than that Musk is, well, Musk.

Is such a fucking genius he could just swoop in and fix things for Trump. I am so sick of the Musk myth. Stop with the alternate theories already.

I'm not positing a theory to cover for Musk or proclaim his genius. I'm just wondering aloud why he would agree to this and then not commit the resources required to carry it out.

He's proven that he's capable of acquiring/stealing others' ideas and surrounding himself with people who are marginally competent. That's the bedrock of the myth of his "genius". He doesn't do. He delegates to others what he can't just acquire or steal.

GOTV is a challenge every cycle, but reports from many locations indicate that it's pretty much a disaster. It's like he's screwing it up on purpose. Hence, my query. It's probably just arrogance and ego, as applegrove noted in another response.

I also occasionally think Trump's trying to lose on purpose, but that doesn't make any sense, either.

for any wrong assumptions. I have to keep to my exercise routine. Also I have a short Musk fuse.

I propose 2 similar scenarios that I think fit the reports. 1) he couldn’t get anyone with the expertise to work for him and share their knowledge with him. Or 2) he wouldn’t listen to the expert advice. There have been reports that campaign operatives are complaining that he is screwing up.

One other point, he has dumped a lot of his own money in this and put his reputation for managing complex operations at stake.

to pay for this. More like he arrogantly thought he could improve on GOTV with his brilliance. Every 4 years thousands of the greatest politicos in the country plot how to get people out to vote for their gal. Somehow Musk must have thought they left a few stones unturned and he could swoop in and fix it.

It would be funny if Trump's sudden 180 on Musk ended up being a primary factor in his demise.
