Just venting
I went to a family dinner tonight with my parents and 2 fellow cousins. Unfortunately , I learn that my dad and cousins are omitting the general election. They once were democrat voters but they hate both candidates. I tried to convinced them, but no luck. Sigh. I'm from Pennsylvania.
I went to get ice cream and overheard the coworkers there are voting for Trump.
I'm a bit disappointed and dishearted atm.

(12,974 posts)that have low posts. My older daughter went from democrat few years ago to republican because of her boyfriend and other republicans at work.
It can happen. Very frustrating and maddening.
I'm writing this quickly and via my phone. I'm not trying to discourage people just venting.

(28,836 posts)So, it should be Democratic voters. Democrat used as an adjective, like "Democrat Party", is something that right-wingers have been doing for decades as an insult, so that's how your use of it is being interpreted by a few posters here.
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt until given reason not to, however. Hence, the explanation.

(28,836 posts)Things are a little testy around here since the election is tomorrow. Try not to take it personally.
For the record, I have several relatives who are Trump supporters for no reason that I've ever been able to discern, so I share your frustration.
I went to a family reunion in Uniontown, I am the only Dem in my family.
All of my cousins former Repukes, flipped and are voting for Harris, thirty of them!

Glad others can spot it.

(12,974 posts)luckily they are in CA so not that worried.
I know how it feels to see how awful he is and have them say she is too.
My fingers are crossed enough people vote the right way.

(13,588 posts)democrat voters because that is an insult invented and used by the right wing and those who listen to right wing media. The Democrat-IC party is composed of Democrat-IC voters.

I frankly find this ease to feel offended by 'democrat' silly at best.
I understand people are anxious and testy right now. But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

(259 posts)A disappointing experience for sure, but your encounter with your family did not make you a worse person. Repose in the truth (that you know about the political reality). Pearls before swine. Take heart in the support of your community, your DU family. Maybe try to reach out and convince others who might be more accessible. GOTV. Fingers crossed for a good outcome tomorrow.
