5. If Trump wins DeSantis' reign of terror can go on unchecked by any federal interference

It Trump loses, I believe he still thinks he can make another run for the White House, probably starting as soon as Harris gets inaugurated.

Either way he figures he can win, while still hurting people in the process.

He should have stayed out of the primaries this year. Now I think JD and Jr. have a better chance in 2028.

That will weigh down on him like a 20 ton anchor. Who will want to vote for a guy who ran a state with some of the highest inflation in the country? How about the insurance crisis that's only going to get worse (because of climate change)? And insurance problems could become banking/financial sector problems. Or how about some of the people he's appointed funneling state money into their businesses?

He may have national ambitions but his record is ripe for criticism and will only show more rot with time.

by Republicans with higher ambitions -- Kansas/Brownback, South Carolina/Haley, Louisiana/Rajal-- that have been turned into hell holes with crumbling infrastructure, decimated healthcare, and economic mismanagement. These up and coming GOP stars never took off, though not necessarily because they sucked at actual governance.

I would like to think DeSantis would pay some price for his corruption and incompetence, but as cruelty is so much a feature of today's Republican agenda, I am not sure how far he can go.

both in the state he’s supposed to be helping recover from storm devastation and the so-called political party that’s falling apart presently. Perhaps he wants to emerge as a new strong-arm candidate for leadership of a post-rump party.
