I switch back and forth from confidence to pessimism

And this is not even due to Trump’s antics or potential shenanigans yet to unfold.

The simple reason is voters in general are clueless about the candidates and issues. This is a real problem that Trump is uniquely benefiting from.

Speaking with friends and family, some who even openly said they voted for Kamala, is discouraging. They still repeat Trump lies, claim Biden is responsible for inflation and immigration, and/or think things were better during the Trump years.

When I counteract with actual facts or things Trump has said, like his tariffs or deportation plans, they can only counter with something like “well Trump doesn’t actually mean that. He’s only going to go after the bad guys.”

To which I say, “so he’s a liar then?” They usually shut up then but I don’t think I’ve convinced them. They still believe in the myth of Trump.

So I’m preparing myself for either outcome tonight even though I remain confident in a Harris victory. But I am also deeply concerned about the future if most persuadable voters are as ignorant as my small sample size.

IMO you say that they voted for Harris but based on what you’re saying they say I think they secretly voted for Trump. If they voted against him they wouldn’t feel the need to argue for him to you.

But it’s the strangest thing. They will badmouth Trump sometimes, say he was crazy or was horrible during the pandemic. I can’t tell if they are just lukewarm about Harris or secretly pro-Trump. No other R candidate would get this kind of benefit of the doubt, which leads to my pessimism until I see the results tonight.

I have commented that they need to stop believing everything that they see on WhatsApp or Youtube. I think that’s a big source for all their misinformation.

There's a great deal more enthusiasm for Kamala then there was for Biden and Hillary and there appears to be less for Trump this year then in the past two presidential elections.

Trump is playing to small venues with empty seats this election.

Kamala had been perfect since the summer. She gave 100% effort and that’s all I can ask for.

I am also feeling pessimistic. Too many people are ok with DT being in office again. The fact that this election is so close is very disappointing to me.

But I’m also preparing myself for the worst case scenario. I would not underestimate Trump - he has a very loyal base plus other “ordinary” folks buy his schtick or make excuses for him.

Had to help my neighbor whose truck is in the shop, drove him to work in Lancaster city.

Really long lines at two polling locations I passed in the city itself - which is very blue. Also unusually long lines at a rural voting location as well.

Turnout seems extremely high everywhere.
