They truly believe the polls, betting sites and Fox that TSF has lead and is favored to win. They are so deep in their the MAGA alternate reality/cult they have not used what little critical thinking they may possess to look deeper into the polls or other news sources to even consider a different point of view. Further, the impact of their Roe v Wade destruction will come as a surprise.

(42 posts)And nearly everyone I know is convinced T will win in a landslide. I worry what will happen tomorrow.

(28,836 posts)They think that their little slice of the country is indicative of the rest of it. It's not. It's not representative of anything more than their little slice of the country. Sometimes, not even that.

(5,071 posts)They think because the community and state is red, that all of America is red except for NYC, San Francisco, and LA. And to them, that's not "real America," so it doesn't count.

(28,836 posts)In a community of mostly like-minded individuals like DU, it's really easy to think that what's presented here is indicative of what's happening everywhere else. That can lead to unrealistic expectations.
It's good in that it provides a refuge for Democrats and liberals and it can be an excellent source of information, but it can also isolate us a bit from the real world.

(5,621 posts)But in fairness, on our side we have to wrap our heads around the degree of uninformed crazy that exists. Thats a tough nut to absorb.

(14,083 posts)Looks like a very low turnout here. 50/50 women and men in pickup trucks with *rump signs.
The canvassers are still working it hard. Just as I arrived back home I gave a young lady from NY a big hug and told her I had just voted, thanked her for working so hard.
She really hugged me back. I live on a RED street. Said some of the neighbors had NOT been happy to see her so she appreciated a hug.
I have had 5 visits from canvassers and ZERO rethugs.

(8,022 posts)Gotta get my butt in gear to go out MUCH earlier than I usually shop. Don't even wanna be on the roads around here once the action gets started at polls and newsrooms. Not as many magas as there used to be here, but the remaining ones are real hot heads with low executive brain function. I pity our cops today.

(23,648 posts)They don't know that the polls ahve been adjusted and Harris is ahead still. They also don't remember that it was Trump who closed strong in 2016 and 2020, the opposite happened this time. Harris was surging the last 10 days.

(2,937 posts)Such poor attendance at his rallies, so many leaving early, I saw a Good Liars post yesterday where early leavers were saying it was "boring." The core cult members, the true hate-filled bigots, will be enraged, though.

(5,136 posts)Trump can only up the outrage factor so far at his rallies without crossing red lines even he wont cross. The result is that Trumps supporters are accustomed to their current level of outrage and Trump has nothing new to stimulate them anymore.

Awwww
poor baby, do you need some Play-Doh?
Edited to add that I hear that most women over 65 are breaking for Harris. But the difference is that those women actually care about their daughters.

(9,148 posts)as in, they will feel the sickening surprise that makes one think the world has turned inside out, as we felt when their cult leader won.

I have to keep telling myself that I can't consider my town or state, VT, as representative. I can't consider my large, spread out over the country family typical. We aren't we are kind of split between very liberal, liberal and a few centrists - who are appalled by Trump. I certainly can't consider DU as representative.
My conclusion, I am so in as much a bubble as these Trump supporters in red states convinced that they are by far the majority Until the election is called, I will have this vague fear that in spite of all the incredible rallies things can go bad.
Many here speak of PTSD from 2016. I probably experienced more PTSD from 2004. Until the last week or two, it looked hopeless in the fall. Then at the very end things seemed to turn. On election day, we heard that Kerry was doing very well in exit polls. At the NJ Democratic county headquarters, there was euphoria. Every thing seemed possible ..... Until about 8 pm.

(2,510 posts)With all the bullshit in Florida. I think that's when they really realized that it's good for them to pack the courts. I dissent. However....2004 and the bullshit in Ohio is a close second. Followed by 2016. OMG we need to win big today.....

(60,725 posts)I also was also angry at the obvious voter suppression by defective ballots in Palm Beach etc, which should have been a HUGE source of Gore/Lieberman votes. If everyone's vote was counted as they intended, the exit polls would actually have been pretty accurate.

Democrats dont realize that many Trump voters arent participating in polls, arent advertising their enthusiasm and are just shutting up and voting. Most of those taking place on election day.
Their forums think that WE are the delusional ones.
I still believe that sites like this and a couple others I frequent have taken a long hard look at the granular data and trends, so I trust them more than a gut feeling.
Im on a merry-go-round of emotions. I am cautiously optimistic. But I have not popped the cork on the champagne.
