It is not going to be a 2012 style romp either.
This is turning into a very tight race. It mirrors 2020 in some respects. The data does not seem to suggest Harris is overperforming the polls.
I think Harris will win, especially with turnout in Philly, but it's going to be close. This election is going to be decided by a few thousand votes across multiple states.

The polls have been telling us for weeks that this race is close and could go either way. Kamala told us she was the underdog.

(4,983 posts)I dont know why anyone thought otherwise. As much as we cant believe anyone would vote for him, they think the same of us.
The sad part is, we can win by 8-10 million in popular vote and still lose.

(2,248 posts)The results will likely be almost even - within one or two points at the most in most swing states.

(53,544 posts)That is states have different closing hours. And each county needs to collect from the polling places before they are uploaded to the state.
Until there is enough data they are not going to announce it.
It is too early to declare Kamala as the winner. Never has been announced this early.

You know how that will turn out.
I sure hope we are all wrong and a blue tidal wave emerges before the end.
That could be the only way our country will be saved from as eternal, despotic dictatorship.

(2,248 posts)You can review them yourself and compare the data to 2020 and 2016 and 2012 to see a trend.
If you do that, you'll see that this race is not a blowout and won't be a blowout. I'd say right now Harris is likely the underdog in Georgia and North Carolina and we just don't know about PA, MI or WI yet.

I didn't think it would be a blowout but I did think Harris would take Georgia and North Carolina based on the buzz I was hearing.

Which is funny because a week before, the mood was decidedly different. Very cautious and that it would be a tight, tight - tight race.
And that's when I made this prediction:

Looks like that might be closer to reality.

(3,623 posts)I told my aunt that Harris would secure the Blue Wall but lose NV, AZ, NC, and GA by a hair. I felt sure about that for months. Then I got caught up in the excitement (especially with all the GOTV efforts here in NC). The bottom line is that people are pissed off enough about inflation that other issues are taking a backseat. That said - so long as she wins, I don't care what the electoral votes look like.

It was never going to be a "blowout" or a "landslide." I was cautioning DUers from using those terms.
Here's a clue: it won't be decided tonight. But I believe we should know by sometime tomorrow.
(Hopefully early in the day, but we'll see.)

(2,248 posts)I am not liking what is happening in NC and GA at the moment.
But more importantly: this tells me that the polls were generally spot on and that this was a toss-up race despite everyone thinking it wasn't.
No need to doom yet. She still wins this by winning Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. Its just that at the moment, alternative paths to 270 seem unlikely.

(57,751 posts)In fact those blow out threads irritated me because they were so divorced from reality. People were thinking their wishes were facts. Of course wed all like her to win huge, but the data didnt and doesnt support that.
God willing, she will win this close election.

(3,092 posts)just stopped trying after getting attacked so much. I understand that we need to stay positive, that is key. But we also need to be realistic. I still think we have a great shot at this, but it's way too close to be comfortable, and it has been for a few months now.

(3,092 posts)just relax. Some have been trying to warn about this for some time, but this isn't an all-is-lost thing. Yes, it's going to be tight. But I still have faith that we will prevail. don't forget, the largest of the large districts take a LOT longer to finalize, and those create massive shifts in the numbers when they finally come in, so we shouldn't get worked up. Let's see what it looks like tomorrow, not right now
