My Republican friend who hates Trump thinks Trump won't get anything done. It will be like the border wall

I called him because I always feel a bit better talking to him about Trump. He just thinks Trump is a total boob and the country is too diverse for any major dictator stuff to stick. He thinks it will be a total disaster and we will be back in power in 4 years. He doesn't seem that worried that Trump will be able to pull off the dictator stuff. I just hope he is right but he may be too naive to understand how dire this could be.

I really have no clue. I will be bracing and hoping for the best. I will be very happy in 4 years just knowing if we survive as a democracy. His dementia is getting worse and in 4 years he will be way too whacked out and people will eventually realize it. I just hope the Project 2025 folks don't push him into trying too much of their crazy shit. I don't think he cares much about anything but getting rid of brown people and going after people who were mean to him. I'm very worried about Russia and NATO and the possibility of another WWIII down the road and hopefully it won't be the US aligned with Russia at that point. I think it will be either way too crazy and the American people will hopefully hold him in check or they won't be able to hold him in check and 225 years of this democratic experiment will die.

Will we survive or not? What are peoples thoughts?

to deport everyone. He won’t get away with unreasonable tariffs, etc.

He will get to replace the old GOPer Justices who now retire. And we have to listen to these MFers.

His followers would love it. If it causes food prices to skyrocket and cripples homebuilders, triggering a recession, he’ll blame it on the “libs” and his followers will eat it up.

The country got a soft landing from Trump 1.0, thanks to President Biden. Unfortunately the soft landing allowed the MAGA Magoos to retain their ideas without allowing them to be checked against cold, hard reality.

The Country was a lot better off with President Biden in charge. I fear that the country is in for a rough time when the Republicans run the economy into the ditch.

The hardships will affect us, of course (That’s why we didn’t vote for Agent Orange), but a lot of MAGA types are going to find out that they’re as bad off as the “others” they despise and that the talk show hosts and podcasters they idolize aren’t going to give them a helping hand.

best.” Pain can be a good teacher, especially if a lot of MAGAs find themselves as new residents of homeless camps among the folk they despised. Unfortunately a lot of thoughtful, well-maning Democrats are going to find ourselves in the skillet with them.

Hunger, poverty, and watching their loved ones suffer like their families hadn’t suffered in decades thanks to the Great Society and other reforms might get through to them.

My sympathy for these people remains limited. They really should have known better than to pull the lever for the Republican candidate and his friends.

Vote Trump in, but his infirmities are too apparent, so he will be sent packing almost as soon as he is inaugurated.

Scary times this is going to be.

The more I think about this, the more I am convinced this is all a bait and switch act. Use Trump as the bait, then Trump will be forced out and pardoned by whoever succeeds him.

In any case, our country is done if he or his backers regain control.

They will take up lawsuits challenging all the clean air/water/climate change stuff. They will rule against it and the trump agency heads will shut all that stuff down.

They can't touch things that are law, but they can challenge stuff through the courts and make the law ineffective.

Consumer financial protections will be gutted and govt agencies will cease oversight. Get ready for the big con! Corporations will figure out ways to scam you out of money or add in tons of worthless fees and penalties.

The economy will stagger around, and malaise will set in, we have midterms to plan for, and time to come together and offer the disappointed middle a truly hopeful future. We survived him before, we will again.

Trump will be looking out for himself first, last and always.

When terrible policy trial balloons are floated and there's negative blowback, Trump will reverse course. That's the way he is. He has what he wants, to be able to make his legal troubles go away. Whoever staffs his administration will be like scorpions in a jar, fighting each other for Trump's ear, knives will be out and leaks abound.

JD Vance is an extremely inept politician. He can't schmooze, can't read people, can't do anything but stand up and quack like a fascist duck. He's smart but has zero charisma or people skills. Even in MAGA world, the Leader has to be able to buddy around with the lackeys if he wants to get shit done. I can't see Vance having any kind of success with that.
