Solidarity

I was driving to the coast thinking some sand and waves might help. I passed a car stopped by the road, near a woman in her late 70s maybe collecting Harris signs. I impulsively pulled over and ran to her and said “May I have hug?” She immediately gave me a warm sweet hug without a word. Then said, tears on her cheeks, ”This is the end of our country. This is the end of democracy. It’s the end of everything.” I mumbled helpless attempts at comfort and then left. Bless this soul for hugging a stranger. I wish I could have comforted her.

The sand and sea really didn’t do their usual. I remain gutted. I so wanted to be happy today.

But we will regroup and fight. We have no choice.
