(16,385 posts)we may be able to avoid too much destruction of SS and Medicare. There would be a few so-called moderates who would cross over to block and ornerous legislation.

(16,385 posts)Theres Republicans in districts so close that they would lose if they gutted retirement programs. Theyve crossed over in the past for certain issues, I dont see that it would be different this time.

Never been done before. Let everything fall on them. Maybe the Magats will riot against them.
As long as we cast a single vote or say anything, they will hold everything against us.
They will hold "Here" and "Present" against the democrats when they fail.

(1,117 posts)Nearly the whole population would protest. Hes got 2 years before the next election. If he attempts anything with SS I cant imagine many republicans up for reelection in 2026 would stand a chance. Dems or Independents wouldnt hardly need to campaign. Democrats would need to just go on the news shows and tell everyone hes gonna kill SS.

(12,412 posts)messing too much of that.
There will likely be some increase in age for full benefits and some tinkering with the Cap for people in their 40s. GOPers will likely throw in some kind of incentive to put a portion of one's SS "funds" in stock market, bonds or something for those who think they'd be millionaires if they invested their own money, rather than pay into SS.
