Biden Says 'We're Going To Be OK,

President Joe Biden consoled his supporters and urged them to not give up as he pledged to ensure a peaceful transfer of power to President-elect Donald Trump in January.

“Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable,” Biden told staffers and his cabinet Thursday as they gathered in the Rose Garden two days after Trump’s shock victory.

“The American experiment endures. We’re going to be OK. But we need to stay engaged, we need to keep going. And above all, we need to keep the faith,” Biden said in a roughly six-minute address.

Biden became the first president to step aside and not run for reelection after his first full term since 1968, when Lyndon B. Johnson did so in the face of opposition over the war in Vietnam. But Biden’s chosen successor, Vice President Kamala Harris, failed to win Tuesday, setting off a wave of introspection and finger-pointing among Democrats.

Comment: The correct spelling of the word meaning a lack of experience, wisdom, or judgment is “naive.” This term originates from French and is used in English to describe someone who is easily fooled or lacks worldly experience.

After telling us for months and years how Democracy was under attack, and in danger, now suddenly things are going to be ok?

I'm sure it won't be a big deal having 5 youngish Extreme Right Wing Justices on the SC for the next 40 years.

It’ll be tough, yes, but in 2026 perhaps we’ll be able to get control back in the senate and depending on the status of the House, keep or take back control of the House. We just need to hold on through the next 4 years.

Hope springs eternal, we cannot give up on it.

I had some Democratic Party folks I stumbled into a conversation with saying Biden should have run in 2016. They were not so sure Clinton was going to win (this was at a get together the weekend before that election). There was something about their "despair" that Biden skipped 2016 that was an ominous sign when the results came in that election. In retrospect they were right and the fact Joe was seen as "establishment" being that he was PBO's VP for the previous 8 years is negated by the fact Hillary certainly didn't come off as an "outsider". One thing Joe has always been great at is talking to the working class, he's brilliant with that. We will never know and it's not worth going into great analysis over history.

He was not in the right frame of mind to run a campaign against Hillary, let alone in the actual election.

We are about to get the RW GOP kitchen sink approach on steroids.

The will try every shitty thing at once so that resistance becomes scattershot and difficult.

At the same time, though, it feels like a hollow promise. We are not going to be OK, at least not for awhile. Maybe we will be some years down the road, but the next four years will be the very definition of not OK, especially if you're a young woman, an immigrant, or trans or one of Trump's other Untermenschen. You might even be dead, which is about as not OK as it gets.

And she could have 85 days in the role that she deserved, so we can implant an image of NORMALCY on a BROKEN GLASS CEILING.

And when the GOP takes over and destroys the economy, the public will have an image of the last two months.

He will be thinking about this for the rest of his life.

But yes, I do expect him to put on a brave face in public and in front of his staff.
