The only thing really up for debate, is How Fucked Are We?
Are we Right Wing Supreme Court opinions for the next 40 years Fucked?
Are we National Abortion Ban in the next 2 years Fucked?
Are we Mass Deportation of 100's of Thousands Fucked?
Are we Recession Fucked or Depression Fucked?
Are we no more fair elections in 2026 Fucked? Or 2028 Fucked?
Are we widespread racial and anti-semitic attacks Fucked, or just random incidents Fucked?
Are we mass outbreaks of diseases by 2026 due to vaccine denial Fucked or by 2028 Fucked?
And finally, are we Irreversable Climate & Global Warming Damage by 2026 or 2028 Fucked?
Start fighting if you must, so you feel you're trying. But there might not be much left to win back by the time they are done Fucking everything up. And then we'll have to spend 4 years perhaps hopelessly trying to fix all that they Fucked up, before getting blamed again, and replaced by their new Fuck Up Du Jour.

(18,871 posts)We are in a much better position than anyone who voted for that POS. We are making plans on how to resist and how to survive. I cant help but think of the hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900.

(10,599 posts)"W" had 8 years to Fuck things up, and it took Obama 8 full years to repair the damage.
"T" managed to Fuck things up in only 4 years, for which President Biden spent 4 years restoring the devastation wrought.
My guess is that in his 2nd go around, "T" will do 8 years worth of damage in half the time, after which some Democrat will come to the rescue, but be blamed after 4 years for not repairing it sufficiently.
I honestly don't see the country surviving in the long term, and possibly not even in the short term.

(798 posts)this interesting conversation with me way back in 2009 about the financial crisis. Keep in mind I'm also Indian but was born and raised in the US. At the time my second cousin was here in the US on Visa. We discussed the world's perception of America, and he said "You know back home in India for years we would always talk about how stupid the US was to make George W Bush the president, but the perception is at least in India that the US is just 1 more republican president away from self-destructing. As long as you guys have a democratic president there is the perception that you guys are strong and know what you are doing but if you guys ever have a bad republican president again it's over for you guys when it comes to power around the world. The financial crisis is the first time we ever saw your struggle, and it was shocking to see "
I think of these conversations I had with my cousin now because with all the fuck up's I have seen from republican presidents that it gets harder every time for the democrat president to come in and clean up their mess. We got lucky the first time with Clinton cleaning up 12 years of trash with Reagan-Bush within only a few years of his presidency. It took Obama then a full 8 years to clean up Bush's mess and to no fault of his own Biden was not able to fully clean up all of Trump's mess which is reflected in the extreme increase in food, housing, cars, etc.
I feel now this Trump presidency will be the final death nell in which I don't have much optimism that the next democrat president will be able to even clean up this time around. Whenever we get another democratic president, we are going to need extreme progressive polices to clean up all the trash Trump will have created.

(10,599 posts)This country doesn't even want Slight Progressive Policies apparently. It wants Fascism, Racism, Convicted Felons, Anti-Vaccination, etc. Otherwise, Kamala would not only have won, she would have won in a landslide.
Sadly, your 2nd cousin was likely correct. "T" was an UNBELIEVABLE Worldwide Embarrassment the 1st go around. If it's even possible, and it's probably not, it will take a decade or more to get us back to the point we're at now, and we're still working off the Worldwide distrust from T's first term.

(798 posts)giving my honest opinion that I think you will need extreme aggressive progressive economic policies to fix the damage Trump will have caused. We will need somebody brave enough as president to push for these policies which is highly unlikely to happen.

(38,003 posts)I get it, be sad, I am, but at a certain point we're not purely acted-upon automatons. Resistance is possible, but it's not going to happen if you wallow in misery, and it's not going to happen by you if you don't think it's going to happen.
If you're reading this and want an alternative to the moping and going nowhere...
Send me a PM, tell me you are interested in doing something. I'm working on a project.

(10,599 posts)I am just accepting all that we've been told BY OUR SIDE, for the past 2+ years.
How our Democracy was at risk. How bad things would be if DT got into power again. How it would be TOO LATE once he grasped power.
To suddenly be told over the last 48 hours, "Oh, maybe it won't be so bad, and we can fight that which now seems inevitable," just seems like happy talk. Which is it? Is it what we've had hammered into our brains for months and months? Or is it, look on the bright side, there may be some tiny piece of what once was that can be recovered by 2032, since we won't really be able to start the repair until at least 2029?
It has been - what - 36 hours or so since the bastard was elected? Give people time to grieve and feel a bit hopeless.
