I received my diploma in the mail this afternoon. This is my Honorary Doctorate of Sacred Music. I couldn't go this late spring because the college cancelled in person graduation due to student unrest. Anyway I am pleased to receive it and it is the culmination of over 45 years of work and performance with in 23 different denominational churches.

(3,376 posts)I had no idea there were such broad and connectional roles in worship music. I'm in a small-town United Methodist Church myself. We don't access that much talent outside our community and town.

(65,472 posts)My husband was once a cello major and we play so much sacred music in our house (we still have a CD player and public TV has wonderful concerts on Sunday).
May I ask what is your favorite piece of sacred music? I am particular to "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place." I'm not religious but that composition just makes my heart feel good...
gopiscrap
(24,260 posts)I would say
"God of Grace and God of Glory" it's a wonderful Welsh tune and the text has wonderful peace and justice wording.
As for serious sacred music I would say "The Heavens Are Telling" by Hyden.
I love your favorite also-Mike C

(65,472 posts)Maybe I'll look back on this morning's latest screw up and feel better. My husband is totally stressed out on figuring out our best Medicare plan. So nice to have pleasant exchanges with a musician who plays lovely music! thank you!

(65,472 posts)I grew up largely non religious so I was musically deprived for a long time, but my husband and the Internet have been wonderful sources of new findings of church music. People like you have helped so much!
