Who pays me to be good? Bmoboy Nov 2024 #2
It's not supposed to pay. We are meant to be good without being paid. Ocelot II Nov 2024 #3
Ok, I'll say it a different way. cilla4progress Nov 2024 #4

If you insist on being paid for being good, you're not truly good.

I think that's why the medieval concept of Hell came into being - so there could be some sense of justice. Bad people were getting away with a lot of shit, so it was comforting to imagine that they'll pay for their sins in the afterlife, and the punishment would correspond to the gravity of the sins. In Dante's version, the nine circles of Hell, in descending order, are limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Treachery gets you a frozen lake.

Unfortunately, I think bad people just get away with shit too often, with no post-mortem repercussions.

We (and our beloveds, be they whom- or whatever) are our own reward.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
