(17,278 posts)Automatic recount is triggered by 0.5%.
So although the gap is 41,156 votes, Casey just needs about 7500 votes to trigger an automatic recount.
In recent years, recounts have tended to be favorable for democrats.

(17,278 posts)Have not counted 1.02% of 1,959,702 votes. https://www.pa.gov/content/dam/copapwp-pagov/en/vote/elections/pados_enrsupplementalboard_2024general.pdf
If the advantage of about 25% to 30% for democrats held true for those remaining absentees, it would add 4,800 to 5,700 to the gap probably not enough to trigger an automatic recount.
A recount can also be requested if candidate is willing to pay for it.

(17,278 posts)NYT shows 3,369,658 for the republican and 3,329,420 for Casey (D). Thats a gap of 40,238 which they say it is 0.58%. So to get to 0.5% he probably needs roughly 5600 votes improvement in the gap.
The PA website currently shows 3,370,337 for the republican and 3,329,604 for Casey. A gap of 40,733.
