Deciding on user name, login, copying my bio from Twitter and pasting it in, uploading a profile pic (same as the one I use on Twitter) and a banner.

Then searching for and liking several accounts, and importantly retweeting a few posts. Also creating one or two posts on your new account that will give others a flavor of who you are.

I did it on my laptop Friday so I could access the pics. Today I got the free app from the app store, logged in, and then found some interesting posts.

I love the Starter Packs (personal lists of who you may want to follow because of their content, say librarians, lawyers, reporters, news sources). I'm impressed with how quick and easy it is to find a bunch of good content right away with those.

The other cool feature is that various engineer-types have created lists of accounts you may want to mute or block (MAGA, AI/Crypto, Pedos, etc). Subscribe to them and they either allow you to mute/block or to label all the tweets so you know they're suspect. Or you can go through their list one-by-one to do it.

Love the Starter Pack concept. Far easier to find friends here than as a newbie on Twitter was. I haven't tried it but apparently there's a tool that will let you find and follow people you followed on Twitter.

Plus you can subscribe to accounts that all you to either block, mute, or label the kinds of accounts you want to ignore. AI and Crypto, Pedo, MAGA, etc.

I wanted to stay on Twitter to push back on misinformation and for some friends there. But the algorithms weren't serving my content to anyone new (or anyone much at all, little interaction there these days). I hope my friends will come over. In the meantime, I'm leaving my account there open so I can still post, and also to ensure I don't overlook someone I'd miss.

Bluesky is getting better and better as more people join. There are also Block lists and if you subscribe to one it will for instance block all those with MAGA, Trump etc. in the profile.

Most of the people I follow Block liberally and are trying to make Bluesky a better place - not a place to get harassed or in fights. Make of it what you will.

It does not support news accounts and downplays their content.

Bluesky is pretty awesome. I'm impressed at how easy it is to find and follow people, including en masse. The Starter Pack feature allows anyone to put together a list of accounts others may want to follow. A Starter Pack with lawyers, news accounts, librarians, or any interest you may want. If it's not there already, others would love it if you start a new one.

And I love the engineers who have created fast ways to mute, block, or at least include a warning label on the accounts. All I had to do was Subscribe and then mute or block (for the ones that gave that option), doing so to the whole list. Or you can do them one by one. It's slightly different for the ones that add warning labels, but equally easy.

A couple days ago.
For me, I slowly am methodically was deleting my old stuff off of Twitter who wasfollowing me, who I followed, my likes my retweets, my posts. luckily I didn’t have a lot. But weirdly it shows still that I have two followers and I’m following two people, but they’re totally blank and it says I still have post but they’re totally blank. I don’t understand. So shortly, I’ll totally delete the account even though you’re forced to wait. I just saw something about his updating terms of service to something didn’t have time to read it. Gotta get to work soon.
Anyhow, I fall as many as I could from this list.
A starter pack would be great or maybe we should put Democratic underground or just D you in our profile and then we can all find each other there.
