The f***in economy

We are hearing constantly that the reason(?) that VP Harris lost was because of the economy.

Bull f***in S**t.

The media refused to report how well the economy had been doing until 6 weeks before the election. When the MAGAts talked about the price of eggs, nobody reminded them that bird flue had wiped out entire flocks of chickens. Hence, no chicken meat, no eggs at a reasonable price.

The democrats have nothing to hold their heads in shame for. It is our right wing media that did everything ini its power to make this as f****in close as it was. The thumping that everyone is is hearing is Edward R Murrow and Walter Cronkite spinning in their graves so fast, you could make electricity from them.

Remember, the media only wants to talk to the people that will back up the story they want to tell. Don't forget, the real motto of the NYT is "all the news that is print to fit."

They wanted trump to win so they did not report the truth.

Oligarch Money bought this election.

My Tennessee father-in-law would always say "the newspaper never refuses ink". He hated politics.

3. The media reports on the economy all the time.

If people can't comprehend or can't relate to what the media is reporting, it's irrelevant how or how often they report on it.

To many voters, "the economy" stops at their dinner table or their jobs, and if they can't see beyond that, it's irrelevant how good the "real" economy is.

The trick is how to convince them that the overall economy is also important and why - more jobs, better wages, and so on, but if grocery prices are all they see, it's going to be very difficult to convince them otherwise.

4. The stock market isn't the economy

Something that many forget. The economy has been kept afloat by consumer spending by that portion of the population who have benefited from the booming stock market. Meanwhile, blue collar workers have been suffering from stagnant wages for the past 40 years and are falling further behind, as measured by metrics such as household debt or home ownership.

6. Yes, but

Our economy is still rigged to benefit the top 1%, who have devoured most of the gains of recent decades while the middle class stagnated or did worse. Most Millennials can’t expect to do better than their parents and many are in debt.

I’m no NYT fangirl and think the NYT pitchbot account is among the funniest on X, but this is not their fault. Their readers are not the ones drowning in misinformation. The NYT is actually better protected than a lot of Bezos/Soon-Shiong/Gannett-owned outlets because of the Sulzbergers’ commitment to journalism.

Do not blame the few print newspapers left standing for this debacle. If newspapers were stronger and greater in number — and if Biden had given Harris more time to run — this arguably would not have happened.

7. A year ago we were still talking about living "paycheck to paycheck." Then, we switched to the economy

is great. And it was/is, except for those living paycheck to paycheck. But I don’t think economy was THE issue, just one of several.
