All Dems, celebs, influencers and common folk should leave vow. There will be a short period of adjustment, but it will be worth it in the scheme of things.
Since Twitter is about to become an arm of the Trump Administration, there is no excuse not to.
We just need Barack, Taylor and Katy to start the ball rolling and it will snowball.

(16,971 posts)bought Twitter I started the process but read an article that suggested that keeping it might be safer. The worry was that your account could be somehow hijacked after the fact. So I rescued it before it got deleted. I do occaisonly read tweets, or xscheets of interest to me but would not miss having it.
chowder66
(12,240 posts)leaving. You bring up a good point about the hijacking.
I deactivated mine and have decided to leave social media all together, at least for now.

(16,971 posts)I have a very small number of tweets over many years. I may leave my account active. I will hiwever try to use Bluesky mote actively. For now I am just starting fresh with it and am not going to migrate anything to it.

(43,307 posts)much to be gained by our side in lurking and learning when they all think the largely republican users think they're communicating on a safe platform. Same for the lurkers, hopefully. I doubt it's going to be some intelligence gathering platform.
Unless you know for a fact that Elon's people have, in fact, been told that they can and should literally change the content of tweets, or their legal teams can use tweets as probable cause for investigations of users.

(7,986 posts)Not gonna cede the platform to morons.
AkFemDem
(2,508 posts)You're just supporting those morons, period.
Because I'll show you the alternative sites those EXACT SAME tweets get reposted on by those exact same staffers (its not actually Obama, et al making those posts) The way it works is the social media team hits all the main socials with the exact same content.

(2,508 posts)Because I'm saying your continued patronage of X is dangerous to American democracy- it's supporting Musk and Trump by propping up their agenda and giving them a louder microphone. Whether you choose to read their tweets is moot in the big picture, it's your actual clicks that matter.

(11,005 posts)Very welcoming there. You can block MAGA with one button. Many members are setting up what they call packets, which makes it easy for you to follow a whole group of people at one time. You just have to pick what you want to follow. Media? Adoptees? Book lovers? Gardening?

That link is the directory to the starter packs that are going on right now. It will probably triple in a week.

(821 posts)Perhaps being on Twitter, and responding to all the misinformation is helpful to some degree or better to just let them push their propaganda unchecked
I feel like if we just all got up and left and went to a big cave and hung out there as Dems nothing would change out there in the country

Jarqui
(10,908 posts)Then, I figured it was a good place to counter their misinformation.
After a while, in spite of increased 'followers' (many of them bogus), there were fewer and fewer reads of my posts - even in popular threads/discussions. They had developed a way to muzzle/censor those countering MAGA views.
So my tweets became pointless as did my account. I deleted my account.
I've checked out the alternatives.
I'm partial to Bluesky but wonder about the fruits of effort from preaching to the converted.
