That's the American way? Perhaps it is.
And LOL - as if talking did them any good in the last year. Their voices were not heard. Their views did not accord with U.S. policy of blind support for Israel. Yeah, they should have gone back for more of the same, and be lulled by the nice words of a fairy tale as their people were being slaughtered and driven from their homes and land. Yup.

(4,263 posts)You can't say anything against AIPAC, surely you know that. Maybe that is changing but at such a glacial pace I never noticed.
Who is this "you" you insult and accuse? The entire pro-justice/ human rights/pro-Pal movement or just me? Both, I guess.
But for the record I didn't agree with the Abandon Harris strategy. Counter-productive and also harmful to people in the U.S. too. I probably hate Trump as much if not more than Netanyahu. I am aghast and in despair too.
The difference is I saw it fucking coming. Not because I think Muslims/Arabs are stupid etc as so many here do. I want no part of this incitement to Muslim hatred. Threads like these make me sick. But because I could understand that this community was put into a corner with no good choices and I was afraid they would make the wrong one. I based this on what I might do if I were in their shoes. And I can do that very well now, having witnessed the carnage in Gaza and having a particularly sensitive system that experiences human suffering through some kind of osmosis. I often wish it weren't so.
Please don't arrogantly assume people are stupid, or not as politically savvy as you. I understand the tightrope Biden was walking. But I saw how time and again he jumped off on Israel's side, and NEVER the Palestinians. He erased all red lines himself, all the way up to the one called ethnic cleansing, as we now see. The Muslim community saw it too.
"Live with that"?? I agree, hard times are coming for those that made the wrong choices. On both sides.
Israel needed U.S. bombs and weapons to carry out its massive aerial assault. Without those, Gaza would be standing and tens of thousands would be alive. It is gaslighting or ignorance to claim it could have done it alone. It simply is not the reality.
Do you really think adherence to policy and power structures and rules of the pecking order applies even when you believe your people are being genocided and their land about to be stolen as well? I don't.
Have a nice day.

(318 posts)You act like 50 years of agreed-upon US policy and congressional funding with no strings attached can just be changed easily in a heavily divided Congress during an election campaign year that had two fighting interests that needed to be appeased can happen by will and snapping of fingers???
Where have you been all this time to argue and fight against coordinated pro-Israel groups like APAC??? You are way too late.
Biden is not the president of Israel and did not bomb anyone or take a hostages. And if you think we could cut off funding or even if we did that it would matter? Israel has quite the military operation built already. Cutting off funding would not have affected them for quite some time.
Your hubris and lack of knowledge on how policy works has screwed your cause over. But what is really disgusting is you screwed us all over because you did not connect the dots on the true threat of a Trump presidency with your Im taking my ball and going home attitude. It took Trump a week to put in place his intentions for Israels dominance. And this is just the beginning of the gates of hell that is coming for THIS country. Live with that.
Until the different factions of the left and Dem party learn how politics work and you dont demand anything until you have absolute power FIRST, they will continue to cut their nose to spite their face.

Envirogal
(318 posts)But your initial comment snarkily justifying the Arab vote hubris that is now putting the final coffin in the decades Palestinian issue by their own hammer deserved a counter.
Its a cutting nose to spite their face and they (and their sympathizers) should have bet on the best horse that would achieve their goals. But Biden didnt have the congressional support with a laser thin margin to do much until the PEOPLE gave the Dems more power to work out a deal. Hamas poked the friggin bear a year out of an US election year with Trump as the clear GOP nominee. Their stupidity and ill timing gave Bibi The perfect political Trojan horse to not only get out of his own personal corruption mess, but to divide the United States up to let Trump back in power.
I may not be the smartest Kid in the class, but I surely saw what this was going to do the Democrats. I cant help it that people had way more skin in the game than I do didnt see it. They took the freaking bait instead of playing it smart. And here we are. Not a single thing the folks that in Dearborn MI and their sympathizers wanted is accomplished, especially moving forward.
Its all so sad and sick. But the Left and the fringe dont know how to ever win and it will continue to be sad and sick until they get the true religion of how elections and politics in THIS country actually works.

(4,263 posts)There is a lot of anti-Muslim/Arab bias evident on this thread and others like it, you may have noticed. Ranging from the blinking red-light glee at their imminent downfall to reasonable-sounding outrage that "those people" brought us Trump. Yours falls in the latter, but it no less evinces that bias.
The 160,000 Palestinian Americans including non-voting minors did not cost the election. Nor did the broader Arab/Muslim community of less than 4 million, far less eligible voters. Certainly the 6 million or so people trapped in the kill-zones of Gaza and the West Bank had nothing to do with it. Let's start with that.
"ARAB VOTE HUBRIS" - is that like the LGBTQ vote hubris or the civil rights vote hubris of the 60's? The Vietnam protest vote hubris? But from a GOP perspective of course. How dare those uppity/misguided/freaky people vote against us and what they think is their own best interest? Don't they know they have to wait until their party has "ABSOLUTE POWER" before effecting their rights as citizens and having the right to DEMAND change?
Minorities should not have to wait for anything to demand change from the Democratic Party. Nor did they. Muslims, however, apparently do, even in the midst of their kins' genocide. I detect bias there.
Nail in the coffin caused by the Arab vote hubris? Sure Israel has nothing to do with that, perhaps the actual main culprit? The coffin has been decades in the making, the final nail being the actions and decisions over the past year. It's already a done deal. To attribute the blame for the injustice to the victims of it is well...you know.
There were many things Biden could have done to ease the Palestinians' suffering. He chose not to, partly because of realpolitik and partly out of ideological fervour about Israel. He made his choices and so did the voters including Muslim/Arabs. It's how democracy works, right?
yardwork
(69,360 posts)We have a winner take all system. Special interest groups don't get their way when the party that is opposed to their issue gets elected.
Muslim Arab groups in key swing states publicly bragged that they would ensure that Harris lost. "We want you to know it was us."
Well, they accomplished their goal. And now they're surprised that nobody can help them.
They reveal their deep misunderstanding of U.S. politics. The Democrats don't have a vote in Congress, as minority parties have in Europe. There's no way to form an opposition coalition.
We all lost on November 5. We're all powerless now.
AloeVera
(4,263 posts)Nor the loss of the Senate, or failure to retake the House.
Why do you assume I don't understand U.S. electoral politics? I understand that it's a very flawed system and I understand why.
I also understand that the vitriol/hatred and misplaced finger-pointing is just a point on a continuum that has allowed the genocide against them to take place. Decades-long demonization, dehumanization, occupation and oppression against them make them easy targets. Very convenient now to blame them for Harris' loss too, for those so-inclined. Makes the genocide a little easier on the conscience too.
For those who never said a word on the mass killing of Palestinians for over a year, and now are full of righteous rage against them and their kin - I have no words except the crying emoji I made and you ridiculed.
I suggest, instead of victim-blaming, some of these Democrats start asking why the huge drop in support from the Black and Latino communities? That drop was way more consequential. Or women of all people, where even a 1% drop would be catastrophic, let alone 4%!!!
The Muslim/Arab vote is lost, probably for generations. I hope I'm wrong, but it would take a lot more effort on the part of the Democratic Party to bring them back. But their numbers are small, compared to the other blocks that they lost and need to win back.
I suggest though that next time, the Democratic campaign not bring the daughter of Dick Cheney, or Ritchie Torres, or anyone, no matter how highly esteemed, talking about how Israel is "forced" to kill women and children and how the Holy Land was there before Palestinians - to Muslim voters in the last couple of weeks before an election. I somehow don't think all that played too well.
I am fully aware that nothing I have said will make any difference to people wanting to blame Muslims/Arabs. But perhaps to those still in the "reality-based community" - and to those who care about things like INHUMANITY and GENOCIDE - it might.
Beastly Boy
(13,283 posts)Of all the excuses to play the genocide card, this would be the most ridiculous one.
How insane would it have been for a ghetto dweller in Mobile Alabama to vote for George Wallace in 1964?
And how insane would it have been for a white self-proclaimed conscientious objector in Toronto Canada to make excuses for a single ghetto dweller in Mobile Alabama if they did, let alone for a whole organized group of them?
Envirogal
(318 posts)that their protest vote did not achieve their desired result. This isnt blaming that they lost the election for us
but they sure contributed to the Dems in disarray narrative that the right and the media loves to jump on. Some unity would have been helpful.
They are a very deeply conservative society so the Dems were only keeping it because of the welcoming of all religions on our side. Once Hamas attacked and Bibi responded, this is where the symbiotic relationship unraveled. There wasnt an issue before like once the war started. None of it was Biden/Harris fault.
Somehow, I dont see the Christian right leaders Dear Leader appointed helping the Palestinian cause as much.

(69,360 posts)I can't recall another instance where a special interest group deliberately voted to elect the candidate who was publicly, strongly opposed to their cause.
It's close enough to what happened in 2016 for me to see Russian disinformation as the fuel. In fact, I believe that Russia probably encouraged Hamas to attack Israel, just to put all this in motion and help ensure Biden's (then Harris's defeat). The anti-Israel propaganda was instantaneous.

(69,360 posts)They "voted wrong" so "we" are exacting revenge?
Everything you've said is wrong.
"I" and "we" on DU have zero power to help anybody in Gaza now that Trump is the president-elect. We have no power to exact revenge because we have no power, period.
Trump got elected with the help of many American Muslim Arabs, some of whom publicly bragged that they were going to ensure that Harris lost. They wrote: "We want you to know it was us." Well, we all know. But there's nothing we can do for them BECAUSE Biden is now out of power. It's not about revenge. It's the literal reality. No power equals no way to help or exact revenge. Nothing. It's over.
Biden and Harris now have two months to do what little they can to protect America and the world from what is coming. I'm sure they're continuing to do what they can for Gaza, but it's hopeless. Why would Netanyahu or Hamas pay any attention to a lame-duck president who will be out of power in two months?
AloeVera
(4,263 posts)I get all of it.
Why do you think I'm "crying"?
I get it that people who never once said anything - either against or about - the mass slaughter and unspeakable torment of Palestinians, are now piping up or coming out of the woodwork to rail against the "morons" for daring to vote their conscience - because now, only NOW have they become powerless to help them.
I get it that those same people are now pretending that, were it not for the election of Trump, due apparently entirely to these same morons - they would of course be trying to help Palestinians. But, alas, their hands are tied! NOW they are completely powerless.

(13,013 posts)I fail to see the humanity in this discussion. Stopping the killing and starvation of children should be considered before the consideration of punishing people who made a wrong decision in not supporting VP Harris. I very much hope that Pres. Biden will discontinue sending arms to Israel before he leaves office. It would be the humane thing to do. When faced with inhumanity, make sure you don't lose your own humanity.
Sundance1220
(285 posts)in having a hissy fit and voting for a turd that has consigned women to death for daring to get pregnant? Or for gays living as second class citizens? Or not wanting social security and medicare to end. Or not wanting a supreme court and federal bench filled with filthy magats? Maybe if they buy another scarf on Amazon and go protest at a university while harassing AMERICAN Jews will stop the war. Even if Pres Biden stopped sending weapons, on January 20, those spigots will open again and bibi will have zero guardrails to consider. This isn't about humanity. It's about short sighted, moronic behavior that wants to now be rewarded that has consigned the rest of us to live under a fascist pig.
AloeVera
(4,263 posts)You gloss over that part - I gather you don't see it as inhumane. Or perhaps just a minor inconvenience in the way of electoral victory.
Hey, how about those moronic and shortsighted Latino and Black voters? The moronic white women? They were responsible for electing Trump. Can you believe how stupid they are - voting against their own interests. Just wait and see what Trump will do to them! What a "hissy fit". They deserve everything they'll get. Now they want to be rewarded. Morons.
No one on DU would ever think of writing such a thing. But when it comes to Muslims/Arabs - who did not cause Harris' loss - a certain segment of DU has no problem doing just that.

Having said that, they are the worst negotiators on the planet. EVERYTIME they lose (1948, 1967, 1973, 1982, etc) they refuse to take the deals offered to them which, no surprise, get worse and worse as their losses accumulate. Now we see the Americans of Palestinian descent have done it again. They had two choices in this election, neither one of them perfect. In a pique of hurt they chose absolutely the worst possible guy they could all to "teach the Democrats a lesson." (9,212 posts)Celebrated and supported 10/7 massacre of Jews and also at the same time denied it after posting their videos of their own atrocities. No sympathy for them. Their goal is as has always been to destroy Israel. 70% or higher still support H.
Protest non votes or third party votes are always stupid and self destructive.

(389 posts)how about the deportation of all Muslim Americans, even citizens

(4,745 posts)That being said Per the Patriot Act, Homeland does not have to say who they are detaining. It could happen to any of us! Over the past years I have had the occasion to go into the Homeland Security gated and razor wired facility. Before I go in the building I text a friend to say that I am entering and when I get back in the car I text all clear. Its the fact that they CAN do it not the possibility that they will that counts with me! Since the 5th all bets are off. Its not just the deportations that would be bad but the sexual abuse, inhumane conditions and psychological damage that will always be remembered. Our Speaker of the House needs a pact with his kid not to do porn! What would he do with a cage full of women?

(9,457 posts)In the clip he asked Biden:
for once, stand up to Netanyahu
He never did. Made noises. Never did.
As others have mentioned, this guy now begging BIDEN to act is peak hypocrisy. Eff him.

(4,263 posts)But I'm wondering who else he can beg except the current President?
Two things stand out to me. One, a lot more people can die in 9 more weeks of the status quo. Two, that anyone should have to BEG to stop a genocide - for 13 months no less- means we've lost our way or perhaps are not who we think we are.

(4,745 posts)And throwing caramels into the cage that is Netanyahu!! Did you see the video of Biden and T in the Oval Office this week? They are seated in chairs on either side of the fireplace and the flames in the fireplace are beyond huge! It looks like the fires of hell. I cant believe that it wasnt President Bidens secret message to all! Of all the meetings that Ive witnessed in those two chairs I have never noticed a fire!

(1,138 posts)We may all have to save ourselves, Gazas people included. We may have to form small enclaves like the hippies did just to survive. All of our systems will be destroyed, so there will be few rules. Id say collectively buy up land parcels, divide them according to need. Find people with the abilities to grow food, make things, much like the Amish do. Support each other, the enclave doesnt have to be religious.

(7,309 posts)I'm concerned about me and mine right here in this country now. I don't wish harm on the Palestinians, but unfortunately, I just can't. My country is on fire.

(4,745 posts)and when they figure that out they wont burn a vote they will vote and then work their butts off to make things better! This situation was a disaster for the entire country!

(4,745 posts)I feel like Biden has been doing everything he could to find a solution and TSF has been undermining the situation for four years. Just another fine example of that vile loser! Personally I think the blister of that war and especially the timing of it was exactly for this moment. It was important that Biden look as weak as possible and in turn they get to kill people and steal land. The story of mankind or unkind.

(8,264 posts)The only thing DJT ever said about the war in Gaza was the Israel was not going 'fast enough'.
Now he as nominated Mike 'no such thing as a Palestinian" Huckabee and Marco who never saw a weapons shipment he did not love.
What about any of this was not predictable and easily known in September? Yes, I know a few who have been in denial, but seriously?
