Some lessons from the 2024 election:
1. Strict Father morality is growing stronger
2. Moving to the right failed again. There is no "center" in American politics.
3. Attacking Trump helps Trump (because it makes him the center of attention)
4. Trump remains a super salesman. Underestimate him at your own risk.
5. People vote their values, not their self-interest.
6. Identity is not political destiny. Republicans are winning votes from women, Latinos and other groups. Democrats need to understand why.
7. Frames trump facts. People are buying into the alternate reality that authoritarian Republicans are creating.
8. Authoritarians are winning the communication war. They are have invested in messaging and media outlets for decades, and they are reaping results.

#2... Did Kamala Harris move way right and I missed it?
#3... This is accurate but not for the reason he's saying...
#4... Bullshit... Tell me one thing Trump was "selling" besides lies, disinformation.
#5... Bro, all I saw were people voting their self-interests. "Values" had fuck-all to do with it.
#6... The answer you're looking for is **DISINFORMATION** which we all knew was coming but still couldn't counter with truth and facts on our side... HOW TO FIGHT AGAINST DISINFO is the question we need to answer for next time...
#7 and #8 are fine ..

(794 posts)4. I dont think Trump is or ever was a super salesman or else would have had success in one of his non real estate ventures. He even knew he couldnt sell to the Democratic Party. He did find that he could sell to a discontent group of Republucans after 8 years of Obama. He knows how to double down and has the resources ($$, media backing and his base)to keep going.
5. I agree that people often vote against their self -interest and that fact keeps the R party going, but its not always their values, at least ones they had or knew they held that strongly. Some are just recently foisted on them by see 7 and 8. Local media helps with airing Smash and grab, border mayhem, street takeovers, store takeovers, lots of other criminal stories. I also think we underestimated the Trump teams pandemic post pandemic game. Hook them with anti-masking, float some anti-vaccine, then start upping the bigotry.
6. This kinda dovetails with 5. Of course identity is not political destiny, its that these groups as a whole voted more strongly against their interests than before. The US is an individualistic society and I dont think many people from any of these groups want to think their vote is beholden to one party. Maybe, The biggest reason I believe is 7 and 8 again.
