Came across this post on another site:
"I'm a retired ___ professor, and recently a friend told me that her department chair had been contacted by Turning Point USA to ask him to comment on how many of his department's faculty are registered Democrats. He declined to comment, of course..."
The sad thing is that they can access this information legally. Apparently, it's available through a public records request.

(380 posts)to an individual. Is that still a part of the law? In other words, anyone could seek government records (and most of the states patterned their FOI laws after the Feds) with redactions for any ID of a person or the information that might result in a loss or denial of a benefit or other harm to the individual. Wonder if any lawyers here know the status of the FL law with respect to this issue?

(286 posts)In most (if not all) states, voter registration is available online. I live in OH, if you know the county I live in, you can google for the county board of elections. Type my first and last name in the search box and it will tell you my name, date of birth, address I'm registered at and what party. They are asking for lists because that saves them the effort of looking it up one voter at a time.

(3,250 posts)could be a class-action lawsuit against Turning Point USA and/or the state of Fla. for discrimination. Reason being that someone's political registration doesn't reveal how that person voted. Repugs and Indies can also vote for Democrats. Moreover, there's no law being broken by being a Democrat.
This entire political climate reminds me of the McCarthy era, when people were imprisoned for their political views. Interestingly, Joe McCarthy also used the "enemy within" mantra during his commie hunt.

(2,136 posts)I dont know about Florida, but, in Virginia anyone with a little spare cash can buy the voter registration rolls that show name, address, voting record - not for whom u voted but when u voted. Virginia does not have registration by party but Florida does so voting records will show Dem, Rep, or Ind.
