is only half the sentence, "but the party was an albatross around his neck." The full context of the conversation was about how the GOP is on the ropes.

I certainly have no respect for the policies of Reagan but he was a master politician. Romney might have been the worst politician ever to win the nomination of a major party.

was the beginning of the end of this economy. This is where the ill-fated trickle-down economics did us in, weakened the middle class, and started the class warfare. Yeah, just what we want/need.

When you consider that Reagan had a history of screwing over the poor and the middle class, and his hatred for every thing modern and a tendency to want to take back to some weird Honeymooners / Dick Van Dyke era that never existed in the first place.

had run on a more moderate platform, he would have won given the effects that the economy would have had on President Obama. Remember that when Jimmy Carter lost in 80, the nation had slipped into a recession and was losing jobs.

"No president has been re-elected with unemployment at 8%"

I think that is why so many nut jobs were involved. They were convinced all they had to do was get nominated and they would win by default.

Reagan's greatest skill was selling an absolute crap sandwich to a chunk of the American people under the auspices of furthering American Exceptionalism. No Repuke since has sold that crap sandwich as well.

Romney was probably the worst candidate the GOP fielded in 50+ years. No bravado, arrogant superiority oozing out of his pores, and no Reagan-esque way of selling the crap sandwich that is conservatism at its core.
