(8,889 posts)When asked about rather large increases at Lowes, employees had a scripted response, always the same, mumbling about 'supply chain problems'. Was noticing this BEFORE covid and even before that huge ship got stuck and blocked the Suez Canal, backing up shipping for weeks.
It has been one excuse after another to justify unjustifiable jumps in costs to consumers. People just don't pay attention and seem to have galloping amnesia about everything. The corporations are making consumers into indentured servants and damned few people seem to notice.
There will be no actual nations soon, only Corporate Princes and War Lords. Hello Dark Ages Part Deux.

(27,257 posts)Works. The refrigerator is only 6 years old. But this weekend I ordered a new one from Costco. I didnt want to buy because it was so close to Xmas but this knowing the tariffs are going to make prices go up when the dumpy gets back in I made the purchase. Plus I brought a new laptop for my son to have on hand just in case. He goes through them every year and a half.
And the best part I went to a major retailer and the refrigerator was $1700 plus set up and haul away of the old one which was going to cost me $300. I wrote down the model number to do research and check the ratings and was going back to buy it the next day. I came home and in my mail found a mailer from Costco about a sale on appliances. So I looked up on their website and the same refrigerator was $1000 that included delivery, installation and haul away. At the end, I also brought three water filters and the final price was $1250!
Dont wait buy now those big ticket items you need.

(1,265 posts)Last big planned project is new flooring. Hope to get it done by early January for same reasons. Hopefully nothing else major crops up, but we all know it does, so Ill deal with that then and not borrow trouble.
And yes, price gouging. When I got my siding redone in 2022, my contractor told me there was no issue getting products but that prices were not nearly coming down like he thought it would by then. He was shocked.

(8,251 posts)This is the corporate overlords plan
Small family owned mom and pop shops can in no way compete with the big guns. The tarriffs will kill them and out they go.
The big guys ride it out and survive. Even with tarriffs their prices will be lower
Corporate Darwinism
Soon you will be buying everything from dentures to your kids braces from big corporations
Thats what Musk and his pals want
