(1,350 posts)But the trip to Florida to kiss the ring was appalling. If you're that afraid of the guy, leave the country. They probably have enough money to never need to work again. Whatever their reasons, it seemed to indicate a lack of principles, and in times like this, I want to support people who have a very strong moral compass, not weaklings.

(68,478 posts)I don't think anyone has jumped ship. In fact, Joe and Mika seem to be enjoying a kind of respect for doing that trip.
Why is this happening? They get no questions at all.
I question their respect for the reality of their, and our, situation. I fear that this is what we are going to expect from most of the main stream media for his entire presidency, no matter what.
What is Rachel doing, btw?

($25 mil a year instead of $30 mil a year, so not the kind of pay cut that will elicit any tears over here.)

(3,324 posts)MSNBC star Rachel Maddow is taking a $5 million pay cut amid growing uncertainty about the channels future, The Ankler reported Thursday.
Maddow, who currently makes $30 million a year at the network, renegotiated for $25 million a year for the next five years.
[snip]
Still, viewers can expect to see plenty of Maddow, with one executive calling her ratings Viagra. Under her new deal, Maddow will continue to anchor her Monday night show, and also produce podcasts and documentaries. The network is also planning to deploy her as a secret weapon on other shows when theres breaking news.
Along with Maddow, MSNBC relies on at least three other personalities to keep viewers tuning in: Wallace, who anchors Deadline: White House, and Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinskis Morning Joe, which recently came under fire when the hosts traveled to Mar-a-Lago to break bread with Trump.

(6,309 posts)...and found the format unchanged. I detected not one iota of fear of retribution. You asked, and it seems I may be the only one here who is qualified to answer that question honestly because from what I can tell, I'm the only one here who bothered to find out.
Applying the same "logic" used here against Joe Scarborough, an even better case could be made against a man who has been the primary target of trumps hate-filled vitriol by inviting him to the White house, shaking his hand, and promising an uninterrupted and smooth transition to the White House. One has to ask, was Joe Biden pandering to donald trump out of fear of retribution?
For the record, I still watch Morning Joe, and I still admire and respect Joe Biden.

(2,414 posts)He did what decent presidents do. To equate him with two fake journalists who kissed trumps ass is an insult. It is called peaceful transference of power and president Biden honored his oath.

(6,309 posts).... who did their jobs, and no matter how you spin it, and if one is an honest broker, they would realize that after all the crap that has been thrown, the format, and the language of Morning Joe has not changed one bit. Of course there are those who will not give Morning Joe a chance, overly eager to create their own bandwagon that does nothing but feed overactive egos. This is a scenario that is repeated often in this forum. This is one of the biggest mountains formed out of a molehill I've seen here. Your assessment of Joe Biden's situation is absolutely correct, which I made clear in previous posts, but your double standard when it comes to journalists, in my opinion, is not.

(2,414 posts)I call them talking heads who do their masters bidding. They are in the infotainment industry and nothing more. Why in the hell does anyone want to establish dialogue with a racist, lying, demagogue. Next they will be speaking to musk ,the lady who murders her animals and Kennedy brain worms. There is nothing to be gained speaking to any of these people because there is nothing there.

(6,309 posts)If the Reverend Al Sharpton, Claire Mccaskill, and Richard Haas, just to name a few panel guests, along with members of the Democratic party who still frequent the show are all right with Joe Scarborough, then of course so am I. For the most part, I trust the judgment. You, along with a lot of others must have little or no respect for those same people who continue to have an open dialogue with them.
Where is the critical hostility toward the people mentioned above? They are voluntarily participating in a news forum headed by someone you obviously have an extreme distaste for. I stand by my double standard comment.

(6,309 posts)... Reverend Al continues to be a regular on Morning Joe. Maybe they're being polite, but I detected no animosity between guests and hosts. You would think, given the whirlwind of s*** being stirred here and elsewhere, you would find at least some utterance of disapproval from those same guests. Like I said, making mountains out of molehills is a favorite pastime around here.

(2,414 posts)I am not invested in journalistic talk shows. I am invested in the truth . I have found truth elsewhere.
No one should legitimize sf in any way including bending the knee. They are entertainers nothing more and if you enjoy round tables knock yourself out.
quickesst
(6,309 posts)..... And will continue to "knock myself out" until they do or say something that is a lot more egregious that actually merits the pissing, moaning, and groaning directed at Morning Joe.
By the way, since Morning Joe just about mirrors the same formats as others do on MSNBC, then why watch MSNBC at all since there are no real journalists there?
Keepthesoulalive
(2,414 posts)The news should not be right or left it should be the truth. All of our legacy media is about advertising and eyeballs. The morning anchors went to sf and according to him begged forgiveness they said they were trying to open up a channel for dialogue. Thats not reporting the truth , that is trying to gain favor.
All of the cable channels are owned by the same people who support trump and his toadies in congress. I will not give any of them my time or attention because they dont give a damn about me or this country.
quickesst
(6,309 posts)First off, I don't make assumptions. I do however point out the fallacy of those who do.
"The morning anchors went to sf and according to him begged forgiveness they said they were trying to open up a channel for dialogue."
Can you provide any credible source to confirm that they were "begging for forgiveness". I did hear the part about opening a dialogue, but for some strange reason, maybe I blacked out for a few minutes, but I just did not hear about the begging part. There are people who watch Morning Joe everyday with knife poised to strike at anything they can misconstrue as negative. It's a pastime for many here.
Provide the exact quote concerning the "begging for forgiveness", (not your interpretation), and the credible source for this quote, and I will concede your point. Otherwise, I'm going to call it a day. Time to move on.

(5,211 posts)Two people caught my attention. Rep Tom Suozzi and Antonio Delgado, the Lt Gov of NY. Both talked about how Dems can proceed to rebuild. I especially want to hear more from Delgado. In just the few minutes he had to speak he reminded me of a young Obama talking about hope and change. There was a lot of rebuilding talk. John Heilman doesnt need to show up for me, however. He likes to bloviate. One of the original members of NSYNC is working on a musical version of Frankenstein. Some beautiful music there and a mention that Mary Shelley was way ahead of her time in creating a robot. There was also a discussion about BlueSky vs threads, and people leaving Twitter.
I pick and choose. I dont want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

My wife and I read all our news. The money we save not having cable television we probably spend on digital "newspaper" subscriptions.
